Gizmodo is reporting that Apple has refused to answer its request to attend the company's big Worldwide Developers Conference keynote this Monday. Apple's move to ban Gizmodo seems a direct repercussion of Apple's prototype leak by Gizmodo and subsequent actions of Apple to get the prototype back. Meanwhile, Gizmodo said that it would resort to a live blog to cover the event in case of the ban. This comes a few days after San Mateo County authorities announced that a 'special master' had been appointed to assist in the search of Gizmodo editor Jason Chen's belongings: goods seized as part of a police investigation into the disappearance (and Gizmodo acquisition) of one of Apple's prototype iPhones. It's the very device that's rumored to be announced at the Monday keynote.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 has entered the Japanese sales chart at number one, outpacing the debut of its immediate predecessor by 90,000 units. With 339,901 units sold in its first week Super Mario Galaxy 2 has become the fastest-selling 3D Super Mario game on any format.

However, the game still trails significantly behind the 2D iterations in the series, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii selling 935,000 units in its first week in Japan. Super Mario Galaxy went on to sell 1 million units in Japan, whereas New Super Mario Bros. Wii is currently on 3.86 million.

Although a busy week for new releases most of the other new titles are unique to the Japanese market, with the latest Super Robot Wars OG Saga tactics game on Nintendo DS entering at number two with 80,764 units sold.

What would be known as Let's Make a Soccer Team! DS: World Challenge 2010 debuts at number three, with Sega's World Cup inspired football manager game registering 50,206 unit sales in its first week.

At number four is Rocket Company's Medabots DS: Kabuto/Kuwagata, remakes of the original Game Boy titles that were the first video game entries in the Pokemon-inspired media franchise. The two separate titles sold a combined 33,973 units.

The final new entry of the week in the top 10 is Cave's Deathsmiles IIX at number 10, a hardcore 2D shoot 'em-up for the Xbox 360. The game sold only 16,112 units, but came in ahead of fellow 360 exclusive Alan Wake at number 11.

The new releases had only a mild affect on hardware sales, with the DS family of consoles still the number one seller with a combined 29,552 units sold - up around 3500 units on the previous week.

The PSP family of consoles sold 26,286 units, up by around 3000 units, with the PSPgo accounting for 1232 of the overall total. As usual this made the PSP-3000 the best-selling individual hardware SKU of the week, with 25,054 consoles sold.

Despite the success of Super Mario Galaxy 2, the PlayStation 3 remained the number one selling home console of the week, although only by the narrowest of margins. Sales increased by 2,000 units to 20,987, while the Wii saw a boost of almost the same amount to 20,476.

The 360 experienced a drop of over 1000 units to a total of 3546, while the PlayStation 2 enjoyed a small bump to 1463 units sold.

The latest title from Martin de Ronde's One Big Game charity organisation has been announced - WINtA (War Is Not the Answer) - a music rhythm game for the iPad and iPhone platforms.

The game is a collaboration between NanaOn-Sha's Masaya Matsuura and Dutch developer Triangle Studios, and was demonstrated on-stage in a keynote session at this year's NLGD Festival of Games event taking place in Utrecht.

Price points and release dates haven't yet been announced, but a significant amount of sales revenue will go to a selection of children's charities.

WINtA is the second One Big Game title to be revealed, with Zoe Mode's Chime being the first release late in 2009.

Having been on the radar for some time, Sony just couldn’t wait until E3 to finally give official word of free-roaming PS3 sequel Infamous 2.
The game, a follow-up to developer Sucker Punch’s 2009 hit which has sold close to 2m copies, adorns the cover of the next issue of US games mag Game Informer.
Details are, as you would expect, thin on the ground. Hero Cole MacGrath returns, albeit with a radically overhauled look. The game will be set in a brand new city and features different crooks to the original.
Expect more, you guessed it, at E3 in less than two weeks time.

iPhone developer Tapulous has now sold more than five million songs through the in-game music store for its Tap Tap Revenge games. What's more, every week the store's featured track - which is made available for free - is racking up more than 500,000 downloads from players.
The news comes as Tapulous announces a licensing deal with major label Warner Music Group to make four new premium games based on its artists in the next year.
The companies aren't saying which artists, just that the games will include a mixture of hits, remixes, live tracks and rarities.

However, Tapulous will also launch a dedicated WMG channel in its Tap Tap Revenge store, selling tracks from the label's catalogue.
"With Tapulous' exciting family of games, we're adding yet another compelling content experience and offering our artists a unique and powerful platform for engaging with fans around the world," says Mark Pinkus, SVP of worldwide licensing at Rhino Entertainment, which handles WMG's catalogue activities.
Tapulous says it now has 30 million users, with its games installed by more than 30 per cent of iPhone and iPod touch users. That huge community will help it to promote the WMG premium games as they are released in the next 12 months.

Criterion is gearing up to show lift the lid on its new Need for Speed title, hinting that it will hark back to the roots of the series.

EA confirmed last year that Criterion is working on a new NFS, pledging a better game than in recent years after admitting that quality has suffered due to its failure to put "adequate resources behind the franchise".

A recent Twitter post from Criterion teases: "Today we saw the first magazine articles featuring our new game. And you will too. Soon."

It goes on to hint that the game may take the series back to its roots. One fan asks what Criterion's favourite NFS game is, to which it answers "the original 3DO game". And in a later post, Criterion responds to a player who expresses their love for the "old school" NFS games saying: "We have a feeling you might like it!"

Could it be planning a pre-E3 reveal to beat the noise? We hope so.

The Nintendo 3DS is expected to be considerably more powerful than the current DS, but a new report cites "sources" claiming its visual are close to that of HD consoles like PS3 and 360.

"Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," says IGN.

Later in the feature it goes to say: "Off the record sources indicate that the system will have user control over the 3D effect to make it more or less intense."

That would be similar to nVidia's 3D Vision kit for PC, which also allows you to toggle the intensity if 3D yourself to suit your eyes.

The Nintendo 3D is Nintendo's next handheld device, supports 3D effects without the need for glasses and will be out in Japan before April 2011. That's the official word.

Nintendo will show off the console for the first time at E3 next week.
