Red Dead Redemption is spending its second week at the top of the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 this week, having successfully fended off a number of new entries in the UK listings this week.
Most successful amongst the contenders was UFC’s popular fighting series UFC 2010: Undisputed, which manages an impressive second place finish in its debut week, knocking 2010 FIFA World Cup down a place to number three.
Sony’s ModNation Racers slips two places to 12th in only its second week, while EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 slips out of the Top Ten to 11th. Its fierce rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, conversely, climbs five places to rocket back into the Top Ten in seventh.
You have to venture a little further down the listings to find two other high-profile releases. Sega’s action RPG Alpha Protocol debuts at number 13, one place ahead of Activision’s new racing IP Blur in 14th.
Namco Bandai’s Clash of the Titans managed a 37th place finish in its first week. Ubisoft's brave foray into the sports market, Pure Football, failed to hit the All Formats Top 40.

Here’s the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 10 in full (for the week ending May 29th):
    1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)
    2. UFC 2010: Undisputed (THQ)
    3. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA)
    4. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
    5. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
    6. Split/Second (Disney Interactive)
    7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
    8. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Ubisoft)
    9. Lost Planet 2 (Capcom)
    10. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)

There are now over five million PSN accounts in Japan, Sony has confirmed, who seems pretty chuffed with the milestone.

So pleased, in fact, that it's giving away five WHOLE Bravia 3DTV to five lucky PS3 owners in Japan. The promotion apparently starts on June 3, according to JPS, and five of those 5,000,000+ accounts will be plucked out of a giant virtual hat for the prize.

In a promotion more likely to benefit people who don't have houses covered in horse shoes and Buddha statues though is the reduction of all paid-for content on the Japanese PlayStation Home by 50% - presumably for a limited time although this went unspecified on JPS and we're not of the Japanese-reading variety.

Sony's European PlayStation boss has confirmed that a subscription PSN service is on the way to PS3 - and that details are set to be revealed 'soon' - possibly at E3.

    News via http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/...ZZiyfULSSz.php

Blackaddr released Xbox 360 SMC I/O Config Utility v0.1 Alpha:
    [QUOTE]
    DESCRIPTION:
This is a simple utility to reconfigure output pins on the SMC that are used to execute the JTAG transaction to the GPU. The utility only supports decrypted SMC files which already contain the JTAG hack code. It is used to research and fix problems caused by sharing SMC output pins, or caused by the bit timing of the JTAG data.

    FEATURES:
    * Basic Mode:
-Change only the TMS signal to use AUD_CLAMP pin. Fixes many issues, a good starting point for testing.
    * Advanced Mode (for researchers):
-Change the TMS and TDI signals to any general purpose I/O pin on the SMC.
-Change the TMS lead-in delay. This determines how long between a TMS logic change and the assertion of TCLK.
-Change the TCLK period. The bit rate is controlled by changing the delay between TCLK level transitions.

    USEFUL INFO:
    * The purpose of this utility is to help fix and research boot issues caused by SMC I/O sharing or JTAG bit timing. On non-Xenon consoles, there are no unused I/O available, so we have to borrow some from Microsoft.
    * The original hack borrowed ARGON_DATA for TMS, which is the data line that controls the Ring of Light and RF board. This can cause weird issues with the controller and LED display (particularly Falcons) and E79 issues on Zephyr. The original hack also borrowed DB1F1 which is used for HDMI purposes(?) on the ANA/HANA chip. It could causes isses with setting up the output video, especially HDMI resulting in boot failures.
    * At the time of this release, two new I/O have been found that are not critical to system boot. First is AUD_CLAMP. This signal is an control signal that mutes the output of the analog audio. It has no interaction with system boot and is an excellent replacement for TMS. The second I/O is TRAY_OPEN. It is a logic signal that tells the DVD drive to open or close. It does not interfere with boot, however on some DVD drives, the tray may eject on bootup, it depends on the mobo/drive combination. It can be useful for moving TDI if boot failures persist.
    * Many issues seem to be resolved simply by moving the TMS signal from the RF header to the AUD_CLAMP. ...

    News/release from mootjeuh

Well, you know what they say, every two days means a new Brightpad
I didn't really have the chance to add all the features I wanted but I still added some really interesting ones.

    Code:
NOTE: to avoid any confusion, this one PRX is destined to run in the vsh AND in game, so don't post that there's one missing.Without further ado, here is the change-log:
    Spoiler for Change-log:
Brightpad automatically detects if you're in-game or in the XMB, if you are in-game, then you'll HAVE to press two buttons to change the brightness. You can change them both in the configuration file.
While the first button is pressed, Brightpad will not allow the other button presses to go through to the running game/homebrew.
I also did my best to avoid flickering while in-game
Once again, here's the list of buttons that Brightpad accepts:
    Spoiler for List of buttons:
    select
    start
    d_up
    d_down
    d_right
    d_left
    cross
    circle
    square
    triangle
    trigger_left
    trigger_right
    home
    hold
    note
    screen
    volume_down
    volume_up
    analog_down
    analog_up

And to be sure everybody got it, I say again that this one PRX serves in-game as well as in the XMB, so no need for two separate ones.

    Anyway, download's attached.
    Enjoy!

Hard to believe that this great homebrew project is now half a decade old, but it is one that has truly stood the test of time. Here's E P's release post with the 5th anniversary release:

    LaunchELF v4.41 (2010.05.30)
-Updated ps2sdk and existing source files to SVN rev 1682.
-Fixed some compiler warnings with the vmcfs driver do to changes in the latest ps2sdk revision.
-Removed the modified screen update delay methods, restoring previous functionality.

Note: This version is similar to v4.40i only built from the newest ps2sdk. It also doesn't have the MC renaming functionality either as this version too utilizes the internal memory card drivers. Hopefully at some point jimmikaelkael's MC drivers can be added back when a viable workaround is found to fix issues with some console versions. Anyway, the main reason for this release is the end of the earlier beta process. Apparently the newer builds of uLE are stable enough for further future use. ...

Hillbilly posted this over at palib

Hello again. It's been a while since I've posted anything so I thought this would be an appropriate time to catch up with you all and share what I have been working on. Throughout the course of around 1 week of total programming, I have made a simple engine for a top-down shooter in a third-person perspective. The engine, itself, is pretty efficient and I hope to expand it a little more to include more items and triggers for events such as text to appear on the top screen. The only reason why I really posted here though is because I need more levels for this game. Currently, I have one level total and, although it looks decent considering my art skills, it lacks the ability and creativity of a true spriter/graphic artist. So, I guess I'm formally making a call for any spriter/graphic artist to make some levels for this game. I can provide you with all the information you could possibly need via replies to this post. But for now, I'll just share the demo for you all to get the feel of what this game (I hope) will be.
