Halloween may be over, but the most terrifying season of all has truly just begun – holiday shopping season. The horror. Black Friday deals are already popping up for a few retailers, but most notably for Best Buy.

Best Buy's doors open at midnight on Black Friday. Doorbuster sales start right then and there, and there is no end time listed on the site as to when those may end. Available as a doorbuster for $30 each is Disney Epic Mickey 2, Darksiders 2, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, The Amazing Spider-Man and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

Outside of the doorbusters, Best Buy has a Vita (wi-fi system) and Black Ops Declassifiedbundle for $200, Xbox 360 250GB bundle with Forza Motorsport 4 and Skyrim for $200, and the Flame Red Nintendo 3DS with Super Mario Land 3D for $150. For $35 grab Assassin's Creed 3, Borderlands 2, Diablo 3, Madden NFL 13, Forza Horizon and FIFA 13; a smattering of Kinect games are $25 each, including Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth and Just Dance 4. For $15 is Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition, Halo Reach and Mortal Kombat Vita, among others; for $8 is Dead Island Game of the Year, Assassin's Creed: Revelations for Xbox 360 and The Sims 3.

GameStop's Black Friday deals haven't officially hit its website or print ads, but an anonymous employee sent the sales over to Cheap Ass Gamer, and boy are they as juicy as grandma's holiday turkey.

GameStop's lead deal is an Xbox 360 250GB bundle that includes Skyrim, Forza 4 and Black Ops 2 – yes, the new one that we're pretty fond of – for $250. The PS3 250GB bundle runs $200 and includes five free games: Infamous, Infamous 2, Infamous: Festival of Blood, Uncharted, and Uncharted 2. The PS Vita White gets its own deal, bundled with Assassin's Creed: Liberation for $200. These three hardware deals are for Friday, November 23, only.

Also only on sale Friday is a range of games, including Battlefield 3 Premium Edition for $30, Forza Horizon for $40, Ratchet and Clank Collection for $20, Little Big Planet Karting for $30, Mortal Kombat on Vita for $15, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for $40 with the purchase of a new PS3.

Not labeled as "Friday only" is a Limited Edition 3DS bundle with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed and one of three Nintendogs games for $170. Used Kinect sensors with Kinect Adventures are $40 and used DSi XLs are $80.

GameStop also has a hefty software sale for the weekend, including Dishonored for $30,Assassin's Creed 3 for $50, Max Payne 3 for $20, Borderlands 2 for $40, and more, all for PS3 and Xbox 360. For Wii U (assuming you can get a Wii U console), Scribblenauts Unlimited, FIFA 13 and Batman Arkham City Armored Edition are $50 each, and Game Partyis $30. 3DS gets Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance for $20, among other games. For PC, Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 are $30, Cataclysm is $10 and some Sims 3 expansions are $20.

GameStop's "pick-up in store" system will work on Black Friday, and any item not in-store but available online can be ordered and paid for at the store, then shipped directly to the customer, which takes five business days.

For those brave enough, and cheap enough, to venture into Walmart after 8pm on November 22, some Black Friday deals await, including a 4GB Xbox 360 with a Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure starter pack for $149, a Wii for $89, and a 250GB PS3 with the Uncharted Dual Pack and the Infamous Collection for $199.

The retailer is also discounting some games, including Epic Mickey 2, Modern Warfare 3, FIFA Soccer 13, NBA 2K13, Borderlands 2, Medal of Honor Warfighter, and Just Dance 4, to $25 each. $15 games include Dance Central 3, Max Payne 3, Black Ops, and Spec Ops: The Line. Dead Island, Gran Turismo 5, and more are $10.

Finally, in the offer that is most likely to confuse and irritate people, Walmart is advertising "Wii U-Draw" for $10. That's actually the uDraw Game Tablet for Wii, and not the Wii U, which also includes a tablet. Some kind of fight is going to break out over this confusion, we're afraid.

Amazon is already laying on the Black Friday deals as it prepares for another Lightning-packed day of discounts. While the site isn't brimming over with bargains like it should be next Friday, there are some decent savings to look out for.

The pick of the bunch is the $50 trade-in bonus for a Wii. The bonus must go towards one of the four qualifying Xbox 360 bundles, but Amazon is already slashing $50 off three of them. There's a range of qualifying Wii bundles, with the common white unit with Wii Sports worth $70.00. So if you fancy trading that in for a new 250GB XBox 360 with Skyrimand Forza Horizon, you'll save a total $120 off its $250 price tag, taking it down to $130.

That's not a bad deal if, say, you're already switching over to Wii U but like the look of a new 360 too. If you just want a 360, Amazon is offering $50-$115 savings on select units.

On the software side, for now the biggest savings are a bit more random. We like the look of the charming Kirby's Epic Yarn at $17.21, the era-converging Sonic Generations on Xbox 360 at $18.10, and the submerged creepiness of BioShock 2 on PC at a measly $6.47. Come next Friday, however, there should be a plentiful selection to take your fancy.

Nintendo has responded to us concerning how the dashboard messages are selected. This was its reply:"The most discussed topics in Miiverse - e.g. specific games, applications, boss battles, user accomplishments, etc. - will be displayed on Wii U's main menu. Before that content is posted to the main menu it will be screened and filtered to ensure that it is appropriate for everyone."Original story:Miiverse is essentially a series of message boards. You can post a message - either a drawing or text limited to 100 characters - in a "community" (i.e. thread) devoted to a particular game. You'll then be notified anytime someone responds to it.My first sample post was in the ZombiU community where I wrote, "How y'all liking Zombi U so far? Brits love it. Americans not so much. Wonder if it's a cultural thing" (Yes, I left off a period. 100 characters isn't much!)Some person quickly gave my post a "Yeah," Miiverse parlance for a Facebook "like."A few other people responded saying that they dug the game. Their responses popped up under my "Notifications" tab on the side, letting me know that people had either given my post a "Yeah" or written a response. There's also an "Activity Feed," that lets you see what your friends are posting. In this regard, it's very much like Facebook. That's me in the corner... losing my religion!

Unlike Facebook, you can report spoilers and violations. I tested this on a poor friend of mine by saying his message had spoilers. You're then asked to provide a reason the post is spoilery or inappropriate and moderators will decide if it fits the bill. If it's simply spoilers, it will stay up, but become invisible under a spoiler warning that needs to be clicked on to read (players can put spoiler warning on their own messages, too). Regarding my friend's message, all he said was "Flying clouds," but I still got it spoiler-alerted. (Sorry, Jarrett!)Offensive messages, however, get taken down. To test this, I tried posting a message that read, "This game f***ing rules" in the New Super Mario Bros U community and it was removed in less than five minutes.Curiously, what people are saying about a game pops up momentarily on one's dashboard. Simply press the power button and you'll come to a screen showing several different titles with tons of Miis mingling in the background. Random messages pop up giving a cursory overview of what people are saying or drawing right now. Pics of Link and Pikachu are common, as are messages asking if certain games are any good. What I don't totally understand yet is how Nintendo prevents the more offensive messages from reaching this state. Is someone approving all of these before they reach dashboard circulation? I've asked Nintendo for comment and will update as I find out more.Elsewhere, friends can send each other direct messages through the Miiverse, which can be accessed during a game by hitting the home menu, similar to the Xbox 360 dashboard (though the Miiverse takes an extra few frustrating seconds to boot up). Thankfully, the GamePad's virtual keyboard is a godsend compared to entering text with an Xbox 360 controller or Dualshock.

Whether you're on a tight budget or have a fat wallet, simply look to our surefire list of the best and most unique mobile devices to place under the tree. But enough with the chatter... let's start shopping!

    On the cheap

    HTC ONE X

As luck would have it, one of our favorite smartphones of the year is currently an outright steal. The HTC One X for AT&T combines excellent performance, a fantastic camera and one of the best displays on the market into one stunning handset. We've little doubt that any gadget fan in your life will love the One X, which is set to get even better with an upgrade to Android 4.1. The same is true for its alter ego on Sprint, the EVO 4G LTE, which features much of what we love from the One X and adds to it a dedicated camera button, a larger battery, removable storage and a handy kickstand.
    Key specs: 4.7-inch HD (1,280 x 720) S-LCD 2 display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 8-MP rear / 1.3-MP front cameras, 16GB built-in storage, Android 4.0.

    Motorola Droid RAZR M

The Droid RAZR M is an outright budget superstar. The phone boasts a speedy dual-core processor, dependable battery life and a fantastic still camera. Yes, it sports a sub-premium qHD display and the video camera is lackluster, but for the price this is an incredibly well-rounded smartphone.
Price: $0.01 (Verizon) at Amazon Wireless

    Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Don't expect it to go toe to toe with our other budget contenders, but the Galaxy S Blaze 4G is an excellent value for T-Mobile customers. The phone offers robust performance, long battery life and excellent call quality. It also features a truly respectable camera.
    Price: $20 (T-Mobile) from Wirefly

    Mid-range

    GALAXY S III

While most of us prefer HTC's high-end offerings at AT&T and Sprint, the Galaxy S III is an excellent smartphone in its own right. It also has the distinct advantage of being available for all of the major national carriers. The Galaxy S III boasts a spacious and beautiful display, an excellent camera, fantastic performance and solid battery life. Needless to say, it's certain to make any gadget lover giddy. Better yet, like the One X, the Galaxy S III is set to receive an upgrade to Jelly Bean in the near future.
    Key specs: 4.8-inch HD (1,280 x 720) Super AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 8-MP rear / 2-MP front cameras, 16GB or 32GB built-in storage, Android 4.0.

    Price: $150 at Amazon Wireless

    Nokia Lumia 920

The Lumia 920 deserves special consideration for the shutterbug in your life, with a floating lens and sensor that bring unparalleled image stabilization and low-light performance. If the carrier is a deal-breaker, we're also big fans of the HTC 8X (on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon).

Microsoft may be preparing a lite version of its next-generation console specifically made for set-top box purposes. The Vergesays the device -- dubbed "Xbox TV" -- will be part of Microsoft's next-gen console strategy, offering a low-cost alternative to the still unannounced, "Durango" with "access to core entertainment services;" it's also said to be an "always on" device. The report also posits that both Microsoft's next system and this alternate device will be revealed and released ahead of holiday 2013.
It's unclear exactly what the rumored set-top box's "core entertainment services" might be, but it's not hard to imagine it comprising the recently revamped Xbox Video / Music services, as well as the myriad other multimedia services available through the current-gen Xbox 360. The company is also allegedly exploring Xbox TV as a service, licensed out to various television manufacturers and integrated on a software level -- none of this sounds especially far-fetched considering Microsoft's new strategy of marketing the Xbox brand as its entertainment wing, as well as pitching its latest version of Windows as a scalable, multi-device OS.
For Redmond's part, the company's only issuing the following boilerplate statement: "Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention." We expect to hear many more rumblings on the next-gen front after the coming holiday season.

Apple’s range of iDevices dominate the Christmas lists of kids aged 6-12 in the US.
Its success comes at the expense of Nintendo’s Wii U, which is forced into second place according to new data from Nielsen.
Apple’s iPad is the most sought after gift followed by Wii U, iPad Touch, iPad Mini and iPhone. Around half of the kids surveyed expressed interest in an iPad, up from 44 per cent the year before. 29 per cent will be asking for a Nintendo 3DS.
Xbox and PS3 also feature highly with 25 per cent and 26 per cent respectively. It’s bad news for Vita, though – Sony’s machine will feature on the Christmas lists of just 14 per cent of those questioned, which is lower than the 18 per cent who’d like a PSP.

    2. Wii U News

Nintendo might be selling Wii U hardware at a loss, but each sale should still result in a profit for the platform holder.
“The Wii U hardware will have a negative impact on Nintendo’s profits early after the launch because rather than determining a price based on its manufacturing cost, we selected one that consumers would consider to be reasonable.” Iwata told investors in October.
“In this first half of the term before the launch of the Wii U, we were not able to make a profit on software for the system while we had to book a loss on the hardware, which is currently in production and will be sold below cost.”
However, speaking to Mercury News yesterday Nintendo America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has claimed that all it takes is for one game to be purchased with each console for Nintendo to make its money back.
“The business model doesn't change dramatically, in that as soon as we get the consumer to buy one piece of software, then that entire transaction becomes profit positive,” he insisted.
“In the end, the business model is still to drive the install base of hardware, and then to drive a strong tie ratio with all of the other software and experiences for the consumer. And if we're able to do that, then we will create significant profit for the company.”
All of which suggests the console’s US RRP of $300 for the Basic and $350 for the Premium is very, very close to Nintendo’s cost price.
