    News via http://emu-russia.net/en/

    Video plugin for N64 emulators has been updated. Changes:
    1. Glide64 (the plugin)
    - As usual, tons of fixes in many games. It's impossible to list them all.
    - New microcode implemented: "zSort". All games and demos based on this microcode now work.
    - New user interface layout. All settings are now in one interface, including wrapper settings.
    - 3 screen shot formats: BMP, PNG, JPEG.
    - 3 screen aspect modes: 4:3, 16:9, Stretch.
    2. GlideHQ (the texture enhancer)
    - Bugfixes and optimizations.
    - Added "Store" mode to cache all textures without modifications. Since texture cache is persistent and automatically loaded with the game, it improves plugin's performance as N64 textures must be converted into an internal format only once.
    3. Glitch64 (the glide wrapper)
    - Removed user interface.
    - Removed support for old cards. Your video card MUST support shaders.
    - Removed obsolete options.
    - Bugfixes and optimizations.

    Forget the iPod touch and iPhone—and all of these trendy, new devices. Remember the original iPod of 2001? The 5GB white brick with a mechanical scroll wheel? Well, it looks like you can still buy one from Apple, today.

    Reasons to hack, or "root," your Android handset: Custom OS upgrades, PC tethering, full-phone SD backups. Reason not to: It's really scary. At least it was, until now.

    RyeBrye has pieced together an Android app that does all the rooting legwork, a process that used to range from mildly intimidating to headache-inducing. In either case, the prospect was always daunting for the mainstream, which kept the joys of an unbound Android from most G1 and MyTouch owners. With this app, here's the new, streamlined procedure:

    • Download "Recovery Flasher" From the Android Market (or sideload it)
    • Run it
    • Tap "Back up recovery image"
    • Tap "Flash Cyanogen Recovery 1.4"

    Seriously, that's it. Now your Android phone is splayed wide open, and ready for you to have your way with it. But, uh, what does that mean, exactly?

    Plenty of things! The biggest draw to rooting is the ability to install a new ROM—in other words, replace the operating system on your phone. There are two ways to go with this, both equally awesome. The first is to go with a super-customized community ROM. These are tweaked and enhanced versions of the phone's default software, often grafted with pieces of Google's forthcoming updates to Android, some near, some far, and all dessert-themed. Practically, this means multitouch—since the G1 and MyTouch already support this on the hardware side—app storage on SD cards, tethering, more home screens, new system keyboards, and perhaps most importantly, vastly improved performance. A lot of users say using one of these is a night-and-day difference, and given the kinds of things the HTC ROM community has done with Windows Mobile phones, I'm inclined to believe them.

    Your second path is to go full Hero—in other words, to install the HTC Hero's heavily customized OS, which is nothing short of fantastic, and about to get even better. This is a full phone conversion, and even in its current, slightly precarious state, well worth it.

    In either case, you're going to need to choose a ROM, download it, and put it on your phone's SD card. You can select from an expansive list here—for reference, the MyTouch 3G is also known as the Magic 32B—but as far as non-Hero ROMs go, your best bet is the near-legendary, well-supported CyanogenMod. The newest release, out just two days ago, is fully compatible with the G1 and MyTouch. But don't stress too much over which ROM to choose, since changing them over is a breeze now that you're fully unlocked. An overview from Android and Me:

    • Power off your phone.
    • Boot into recovery mode. Press and hold the Home key, then hit the power button.
    • Before you flash a rom file, perform a wipe. Press Alt+W to wipe the data and cache folders. You must wipe when going form different builds of Android.
    • Wait for the wipe to finish and the recovery image to display again, then select "apply any zip from sd". Flash the zip file of your choice.
    • After flashing any zip you should be able to reboot your system and watch it load to the home screen.

    You'll want to read their full rooting and flashing guide for caveats, but that easy little list there is about the size of it.

    A few more reasons to root that don't involve totally flashing your phone:

    • Full backups to SD cards
    • Wi-Fi tethering!
    • Autorotation for all apps
    • Install apps to an SD card

    This alongside a treasure trove of smaller tweaks and tricks you can find at the every-active XDA forums. And of course, it should go without saying: this is potentially risky, and could brick your phone. The rooting process is almost foolproof, but before you jump in, make sure you've got the right hardware (American MyTouch 3Gs and G1s only) and have backed up any important data. Happy hacking!

    Via RetroEmu.com - Home Of LuaPlayer Euphoria

    A little update regarding LuaPlayer Euphoria aka LPE.

    I will be referring to LuaPlayer Euphoria as LPE throughout this post.

    The source :

    From now onwards each release of LPE will be accompanied with the source code. I apologize for not doing so to date. I'm not usually one to break GPL, (my Wolfenstein 3D releases were always accompanied with source code), so I won't be doing it anymore.

    I would also like the chance to explain why I didn't release the source from the offset.

    The reason why I didn't release the source was because of me adding new features in such a rush, that the implementation of some of them was sloppy to say the least and I didn't want anyone gaining a false opinion of my coding credentials by looking at rushed sloppy code.

    I am going to pretty much "gut" what I have done so far (bar speed optimizations, as they were done right) and redo them in a proper manner.

    The Future :

    I have so many things that I have planned to add to LPE it's not even funny.
    bar the obvious ones such as : Mp3 Playback via Me, Math on VPFU etc. I plan to finish implementing all Sony System functions (Osk, Netprompt etc) and much more. I am always open to new requests and features so please don't hesitate to ask.

    As for release schedules :

    I pretty much work on this when and if I please. You have to understand that I work 5 days a week, have a social life now and then (too complex to go into here ) and also work on my own applications and games.

    I go though phases were I work on something non-stop, then like to move onto another project, then return to the previous one. It's how I roll.

    Please never assume that if you don't hear from me regarding LPE, or I don't post frequently for a substantial period of time that LPE is dead. It will never be dead until it is finished. Take Wolfenstein 3D as proof of that. Sure it took forever to finish (due to my nature of jumping between projects) but it got done in the end. (although I still need to add custom control mapping support ).

    LPE vs HM/PGE

    Another thing I would like to bring up. I often hear people say "which is the best?", for me there isn't a best. At the moment HM and PGE are way more feature filled than LPE sure, that won't stay like that forever. Another thing to note, is that I am not doing this to spite HM/PGE or for any competition whatsoever. The goal of this project is to finish what was started and keep LuaPlayer as LuaPlayer, and not to make things confusing.

    Whichever you choose to use is fine by me. For me the philosophy behind the LuaPlayer project is : "We provide the interpreter, you make the program".

    PGE and HM's goals are more inline with taking out some of the things required for making programs (in my opinion). Such as built in TileMaps and Animation functions. That is fine, and great for lua programmers to use. It does however take away experience in learning for yourself (which is my philosophy behind LPE at least). You could argue "why reinvent the wheel when the wheel already exists?". My argument to that would be "if you don't reinvent the wheel, can you truly understand how the wheel works?".

    Anywhoo that's getting into a much bigger topic that I don't plan on covering here.

    To Finalize :

    So that's it. I hope that filled you guys in on the source code issue, the LPE vs PGE/HM argument, and the future of LPE.

    Thanks for all your support so far and thanks for coming to retroEmu.com and supporting the site also.

    Kudos! ...

    Rookie1 has released a test version of dmenu for the dingooa320, heres his post in full:

    I have added submenu support into dmenu. Since I don't have much time to test, I'd appreciate if someone can help me test it out. Please report any problem you encountered here or on the issue list of dmenu project at google code. (http://code.google.com/p/dmenu/issues/list)

    Unzip the attached file and overwrite dmenu on your dingoo. It should be backward compatible. To add a submenu, just add a menuitem without executable and workpath, but with SubMenuItems. Something like this,
    Code: MenuItem SubMenuTest
    {
    Icon = "res/game1.png"
    Name = "SubMenuTest"

    SubMenuItem SubTest1
    {
    Icon = "res/game2.png"
    Name = "SubTest1"
    Executable = "./duh"
    WorkDir = "/usr/local/duh"
    }
    SubMenuItem SubTest2
    {
    Icon = "res/game2.png"
    Name = "SubTest2"
    Executable = "./duh"
    WorkDir = "/usr/local/duh"
    }
    SubMenuItem SubTest3
    {
    Icon = "res/game2.png"
    Name = "SubTest3"
    Executable = "./duh"
    WorkDir = "/usr/local/duh"
    }
    SubMenuItem SubTest4
    {
    Icon = "res/game2.png"
    Name = "SubTest4"
    Executable = "./duh"
    WorkDir = "/usr/local/duh"
    }
    SubMenuItem SubTest5
    {
    Icon = "res/game2.png"
    Name = "SubTest5"
    Executable = "./duh"
    WorkDir = "/usr/local/duh"
    }
    }

    Once the submenu is selected, press A to open it, and press B to close. Use up/down to select the submenu items and press A to launch.
