Tantric has released libwiigui 1.03 :

libwiigui is a GPL licensed GUI library for the Wii, created to help structure the design of a complicated GUI interface, and to enable an author to create a sophisticated, feature-rich GUI. It was originally conceived and written after I started to design a GUI for Snes9x GX, and found libwiisprite and GRRLIB inadequate for the purpose. It uses GX for drawing, and makes use of PNGU for displaying images and FreeTypeGX for text. It was designed to be flexible and is easy to modify - don't be afraid to change the way it works or expand it to suit your GUI's purposes! If you do, and you think your changes might benefit others, please share them so they might be added to the project!

    Features
    Extensible classes
Built-in TTF, PNG support (uses FreeTypeGX and PNGU/libpng)
Built-in sound support (OGG and PCM)
    Integrated hotspot support
Automatic handling of navigation via controller pad
    Window focus support
    Sophisticated object positioning
Comprehensive object state and event system
    Support for animated effects
Included template and sample class extensions (eg: on-screen keyboard)

    1.03 - May 22, 2009
Add file browser class to template - browses your SD card
New images for the template (thanks mvit!)
Add a function to get the parent element

Publishing house Xseed Games today announced that it will distribute the "haunted house simulator," Ju-On: The Grudge, based on the horror movie of the same name, for Wii. The game is in development and will be released stateside this October, according to the company.

In an official release, Xseed elaborated that the movie's original creator, Takashi Shimizu, is serving as a creative consultant on the project, and that "... accessibility and instant scares are given priority over all other game aspects."

Plot details below, verbatim, courtesy Xseed's release:

It is said that when a person dies with a deep and burning grudge, a curse is born. When an average housewife in Nerima, Japan, was murdered in a grisly fashion, it gave rise to a curse so powerful that it threatens to kill at a pace thought unimaginable before.

The curse manifests on those who encounter the curse by any means, such as entering the house or being in contact with somebody who was already cursed. Once Erika Yamada is exposed to the curse while searching for her dog in an abandoned warehouse, the entire Yamada family is put in grave danger as soon as she reunites with them at home. They must now face their individual challenges alone, and only by overcoming the curse together will their family truly be free again.

"Ever since I first heard about this unique concept, this is a game that I've been looking forward to," said Jun Iwasaki, President of Xseed Games. "JU-ON: The Grudge makes quick scares accessible to anyone with a Wii, players can even hand the Wii Remote to their mother and enjoy watching her play and get scared."
In Ju-On: The Grudge, players will use the WIi remote as a flashlight, move forward with the touch of a button and explore creepy locations like an abandoned warehouse, a dark hospital and the always-disturbing mannequin factory. "Much like a haunted house, the player must proceed forward even after being frightened and running away from the initial threat," the company clarified in its release.

The two will also feature a quasi-two-player mode in which the second player can grab an additional Wii remote and "push buttons to make in-game events happen immediately to make the player jump and hate you forever."

Nanako is tired of the constant fighting over the land around her, so she decides to seek advice from the ever-knowing Oracle on what to do. The Oracle tells Nanako that, rather than having the land around her suffer further bloodshed, she can resolve the problems by having the leaders take part in an ancient game created by the Gods themselves. The Kings and Queens will therefore abide by the rules and the outcome of the game.

Swiftly following on from their recent Amstrad CPC version of Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle, The Mojon Twins have released their ZX Spectrum 128k interpretation on Biniax. Be careful though, as Nanako can lose items of clothing if she loses.... The Spectrum tape image and the source code can be found on The Mojon Twins' website.
