It will come as little surprise that the so-called "first pics" of the Wii Hard Drive that surfaced this morning are totally fake. All you had to do was look at it.

It was obvious, not least because tacky-looking the device supposedly revealed by Nintendo of Japan looks more like a cheap air-con unit.

But in case you had any doubt, Nintendo has confirmed to CVG: "We have not announced or revealed any hard drive", deeming any hard drive related report to be pure "rumour and speculation".

And if that device is a hard drive that can be used with Wii, that's nothing new as the Wii can already use external hard drives to store files in much the same way it uses SD Cards. But files need to be copied back onto the Wii's internal memory before use.

For now, you'll have to make do with the internal 512MB storage. Tough, we know. See the device from the now-removed NeoCrisis report below.

A few years ago, aspiring Korean DJs started tapping beats in time with PSP music and racking up high scores. The game was called DJ Max, and Americans would never know the game's glory unless they were ready to call their favorite import shops.

    That's about to change.

PM Studios announced this morning that it will be publishing Pentavision's DJ Max Fever in the United States. The basic gist of the game is that players pick songs and then need to tap corresponding buttons as icons cross a line above said button indicators. It's kind of like the Guitar Hero concept mixed up with scratching, techno beats, and scantily clad female DJs. For more on the nuts and bolts of gameplay, check out a preview IGN did at GDC 07 when a version of the game -- which might or might not be Fever -- cropped up in San Francisco.

DJ Max Fever is going to be a mix of DJ Max Portable and DJ Max 2. The title will pack in more than 100 songs for you to tap through; a Freestyle mode that's activated by performing a perfect mix; goal-based contests called Extreme challenges; five difficulty levels; Network Battle Mode; and a collection gallery to house the music videos, soundtracks, and images you unlock.

We've got tons of screens and a handful of movies in the gallery below. As you can see, DJ Max Fever has an anime styling to it and some catchy tunes. Look for a hands-on in the coming weeks, and look for the game to hit your local retailer on Nov. 11, 2008.

With two successful years of pomp and glitzy bluster under its belt, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that its British Academy Video Games Awards are set to return in March 2009, following a leave of absence this year.

With its videogames award ceremony scheduled for March 10 at the London Hilton, Park Lane, the Academy aims to "support, develop and promote the art forms of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefitting the public."

To this end, BAFTA has unveiled its 13 nomination categories, with awards being dolled out across Action & Adventure, Artistic Achievement, Best Game, Casual, Gameplay, Multiplayer, Original Score, Sports, Strategy, Story & Character, Technical Achievement and Use of Audio. 2009 also sees the introduction of a new Handheld category, recognising development excellence across mobiles phone, Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and Nintendo GBA titles.

Next year's ceremony will also see prizes awarded for the BAFTA Ones To Watch Award in association with Dare To Be Digital - aiming to recognise new gaming talent - and another for games or gaming technology worthy of special recognition. The evening will also see another industry member's indoctrination into the Academy's prestigious Fellowship, the highest accolade it can bestow on an individual for outstanding achievement and contribution to the industry through a body of work - last year awarded to Will Wright.

Nominations are voted for by industry "experts" and the final nominations list in each category is set to be unveiled on February 10, 2009 - one month before the official award ceremony.

Sepro has posted a new version of his Rubiks Cube game for the Nintendo DS, heres the release info:

Project description: Unless you've been living under
a rock the last 25 years you know the Rubik's cube. This is a 3D version for the nintendo DS. You can control using the stylus. To hard, try the 2x2x2 version... For die hard cubers there is a 4x4x4 version and you can turn of the animations for real speed. Just make sure to play this on actual hardware, I haven't got it to work on an emulator.

This one will need DLDI patching if you want to use the save/load function.

PaulWagener has released Wii Earth which is an app that allows you to perve on people around the world

WiiEarth is a Google maps like app that enables you to browse the earth like in Google maps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4W_2sf4rDA

    FAQ
Is this even legal? It is probably wrong on some level, but I personally don't think that the data from Google and Microsoft is being misused here.

The program hangs / gives an exception / fails to load any data Yeah it does that, please reset your Wii and try again. Note that the Live maptiles don't have any tiles for the entire earth. So at first zoom level it will show blackness.

Can this hurt my Wii? Yes, though it isn't designed to do that. Please be careful with this and other homebrew.

The cursor is gone! I don't know why this happens, holding my hand in front of the Wiimote for a sec solves the problem for me.

When is the next version due? I don't really feel like doing more work on it. If you got an awesome idea and think you can handle the source just contact me on the talk page and I'll give you svn access.

Where is the Google satellite data? It gave me a lot of problems because after an x amount of tiles downloaded you have to fill in a captcha. I just left it out for now, you can use the Live Hybrid view to view the roof of your house. There is code in place to download it but it cannot be reached.

If I build and run it myself it crashes almost instantly with an 'Exception (DSI) occured' This is a bug in devkitppc wich is in r15 but has been fixed since. It is some sort of memoryleak in net_read() that causes the exception. You have to build the latest cvs version of devkitppc and use that to build WiiEarth that doesn't have the bug.

    News/release from Muzer:

txt-read is a simple text reader app for the Wii. It can read any file stored in plain text format. It uses the Wii's console, and has all the features you would expect from an app nowadays (Wiimote, Front SD, and Homebrew Channel support). "Me" in this document refers to Muzer

1.0: Finished file selector (partially me, partially CraZzy) - with subdirectories and proper scrolling and skip 5 files feature, added quick usage info, fixed many bugs, added option to toggle numbers, added a return to selector feature, added a progress bar, reinstated support for arguments.

Geometry Wars fans will be pleased to hear that it doesn't look like the psychedelic shooter series will end with the second game.

Speaking to MTV's Multiplayer blog, Bizarre Creations' Craig Howard revealed that the series is "not going to stop," and that the developer has "enough game ideas to do Geometry Wars for probably about 10 games".

"It depends on what will work," said Howard. "Geometry Wars is definitely a franchise."

According to Bizarre there have been many "experiments" left on the cutting room floor from the second game, but it doesn't want to reveal them because the developer might "use them in the future for god knows what". Arcade games in new racing games?

"We were initially like, 'Ooh let's get a Geometry Wars out next year'," he said. "When we sat down, we realized we didn't really know what we wanted to do with it."

The eventual goal for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 was to present to players only the modes with the most "pure" elements, he said.
