The mystery heroine who has been appearing in the Resident Evil 5 screenshots and trailers has at long last been identified. This week's Famitsu has first details on that character and more.

According to the magazine, the character's name is Sheva Alomar. Born in Africa, the setting of this latest RE title, Sheva is an agent in the West African branch of the B.S.A.A. (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance), the organization whose North American branch has Chris's loyalty. In her past, she was caught up in some sort of bio-terror incident and grew extremely hateful of terrorism.

While Famitsu didn't get into specifics on RE5's storyline, it did reveal that Sheva will be meeting up with Chris in Africa after he's dispatched there on a mission. The setting of Chris and Sheva's new survival horror adventure is Kijuju, that ruined town shown in the trailers.

Sheva will be fighting alongside Chris, but she seems to have some advantages over the long time RE series hero. In addition to being good with guns, she's also skilled in hand-to-hand combat.

Also revealed in this week's issue is a mysterious masked character who dresses in robes. He may be a villain, or he may be an ally.

With E3 just around the corner, expect more details on Sheva, Chris, Kijuju, and all things Resident Evil 5 soon. ...

Just a day after O2's pre-ordering Web site crashed under the pressure of UK shoppers wanting an iPhone 3G, the company has admitted that in-store numbers are going to be low.

In an email bombshell to one customer, in response to his complaint over the rubbish pre-ordering service, Stephen Shurrock, sales director at O2, wrote:

"Demand was at 13,000 orders per second. Frankly, we have to admit we just weren't prepared for this unprecedented level of demand. No website is. The next opportunity to get an iPhone will be when the device goes on sale in the high street on 11th July. O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores will be taking new orders and upgrade orders. Apple stores will only be taking new customer contracts. The approach on Friday will also be on a first come first served basis. The amount of devices will vary depending on the store but will be on average a few dozen iPhones in each O2 or CPW store.

We are expecting early queues and, like the online site, are expecting to sell out very quickly. Apple stores will have more devices. We will be receiving deliveries from Apple roughly once a week for the foreseeable future but it will be several weeks before stocks increase. We will release stock updates for the online shop as they become available.

Unfortunately, [Apple] have only been able to supply a small proportion of the number of phones we asked for, because they are launching simultaneously in 22 countries. We are confident that over time we will start to get sufficient volume to meet demand, but it is likely that stock will be in very short supply for some weeks to come."

A "few dozen"? A "few dozen" in any given store is pathetic. I see quite a few cases of iPhone Rage coming on this Friday.-Martin Lynch ...

We've seen multi-platform console mods before, but none quite like this whimsical creation by one "Bacteria," which effectively turns each console into a cartridge that can be swapped out at will. That was apparently done to make the system portable although, as is often the case, "portable" can be a matter of opinion. It also falls a bit short on the "multi-platform" part of the equation, as Bacteria has so far only managed to turn an N64 into a cartridge, but he promises to create carts for plenty of other systems in the next few months, including the SNES, GameCube, PlayStation and, yes, even the Jaguar. Be sure to hit up the read link below for a video of the system in action, as well as a detailed account of the building process.

We didn't think Fallout 3 was close enough to completion for a rating, but the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has already refused to classify the title, effectively banning it from sale in the country. The game be resubmitted, with edits, in the hopes it meets the gudelines for MA15+ rating. If Grand Theft Auto IV could do it, we have no doubt that Bethesda will find a way to edit the game for sales in the Land Down Under. So much for the Bloody Mess perk. ...

We're always up for a peek at Killzone 2, but we do wish they'd show off a few different-looking levels now. Here are the latest screens and yes, they're still grey.

Don't get us wrong - the shots below (which emerged here) look nice, even if we find ourselves hoping those explosions are work-in-progress, because they're looking a bit PS2 at the moment.

Killzone 2 is penned for an early 2009 release, pushed back from late 2008 because Sony wanted "to make sure we didn't have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season," the other shooters being Resistance 2 and Socom: US Navy Seals Confrontation, also both set for late '08 releases.
