Following the initial announcement of The Ward for Nintendo's DS portable, it has now been confirmed that the game has had a slight name change and also now has a publisher.

Apparently Gamecock has taken on responsibility for the game, now titled with the much more memorable name of "Dementium: The Ward", which has players taking on the role of a patient who wakes up with no memory that must find a way out of the strange hospital without losing his life. On-route there will be several puzzles, unusual characters to meet and disturbing truths to be learned about the hospital itself. Developer Renegade Kid has promised the game will come complete with "gory visuals and bone-chilling audio that brings the world screaming to life."

"Renegade Kid is looking to move above and beyond what most games are attempting on the DS, and with Gamecock we've found a publisher who is supportive, developer friendly, and willing to give us the freedom to create the game we want. Dementium showcases what a powerful piece of hardware the DS is, while drawing in a mature crowd that's looking for a title they can really sink their teeth into."
    - Jools Watsham, Owner and Creative Director of Renegade Kid.

"From the first meeting, Renegade Kid have proven themselves to be innovative, unafraid to push the 'norms' of gaming and incredibly talented - all of which we think are the key characteristics of a great developer. It's great when you can sit down with a developer who shares the same vision of where games should be going in creating new and exciting titles to offer an alternative to the bland remakes and sequels flooding stores today."
    - Harry Miller, Head of Development of Gamecock Media Group.

With the game due for release later this year, you can surely expect further media coverage in the coming months. ...

Fragger decided to cancel the project. You can see in the link a nice video about the Fightoon gameplay.

    What he said:

Fightoon is not coming out in 2007. And it is not coming out in 2008 either.

I am sorry to announce this, but the project has been cancelled.

There are many reasons for this. I will list some, but there are some others that we prefer to keep in private. This is a sad event for us, and right now we just want to take some rest.

In this topic I will explain why some aspects of the game are the way they are. There were many things I had to take in consideration when designing the game, and I want to let you know why some decisions were made. It is a lot easier to talk about these things now that the game is not coming out, since we don't have to worry about leaving bad impressions anymore.

Right now I will only mention that we didn't have any music to put in it yet, so I used a freely available music for the sole purpose of recording this video. Except for the music and the Makaqu engine, everything else was completely developed from the ground up by me and Rodrigo.

We want to thank everyone who gave their impressions about the game, and everyone who expressed interest in it. Sorry for not being able to get it done.

Also, thanks to the GOAT Store for all their support.

I will post again in a few days. ...

After announcing the Ice Blue Nintendo DS for Australia, Nintendo has decided to come out with a yellow DS. The Pickachu-themed handheld console will only be available in Japan. It is a special edition DS, so it is going to be hard for gamers to get their hands on the handheld.

To buy the yellow Nintendo DS, gamers will have to first go to one of the five Pokémon Centers in Japan between June 1, 2007 and July 1, 2007. They will have to fill out forms which will then give them a chance to buy the yellow DS. The winners will be informed via mail if they have won the chance to buy the Pickachu-themed handheld console.

The Nintendo DS Lite Pikachu Edition is priced at 16,800 yen (approx. Rs. 5600). But I have a feeling that most of these yellow handhelds will end up on online auctioning sites! ...

If a recent interview by RPGamer with NIS America is accurate, it will be. The interview, which consisted of reader and interviewer questions posed to Nao Zook, a MIS America rep, went over many points, manygeared toward what popular Japanese franchises might get localized. When asked what franchises NIS themselves would like to see brought stateside, Zook responded with the personal picks of some of NISs localization team with titles like Super Robot Wars, Suikoden 1+2 and Popolocrois. One clever reader, however, got straight to the point.
(Reader Question) Any chance of Disgaea on the Nintendo DS? Nao: Let me just say this... you can look forward to it!
It's rare we hear such a straight answer like that coming from a rep. So, if you're a Disgaea fan and a DS owner, it looks like you'll have something to look forward to.

Details of the interview are here. ...

As it raced past rivals to become the hottest new video-game console, some analysts predicted that Nintendo Co.'s Wii was little more than a fad.

Try telling that to Geoff Allen, who hasn't grown sick of playing the Wii after almost five months. He, his wife and his father all have gotten hooked on "Wii Sports."

"Within minutes, I can have fun," said Allen, a 36-year-old technology entrepreneur from Potomac Falls, Va. "I don't have to spend hours crawling through dungeons and learning all the complex button combos to become proficient. I love the Wii. It makes me happy."

U.S. consumers have snapped up 2.5 million Wii consoles since they hit the market in November. It's a sharp turnaround since the last round of the console wars, when its GameCube was wiped out by Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox.

But Nintendo isn't taking its initial success for granted. At an event here last week, it unveiled a series of games, such as "Mario Strikers Charged" and "Big Brain Academy," aimed at keeping a wide range of players interested, not just teenage boys and traditional video-game enthusiasts. The Osaka, Japan-based company also is relying on girls, women and older players to continue its growth.

Some analysts think the novelty might wear off and, when it does, consumers will stop buying new games for the Wii. The difference between the Wii's graphics and those of its rivals, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, also might become more noticeable as developers create games that take advantage of the more powerful consoles' processing power.

"Its appeal is primarily to casual gamers, and there's a serious question about how long casual gamers will stay engaged with the platform," said Van Baker, a consumer technologies analyst with Gartner Inc., which is based in Stamford, Conn. "It wouldn't be surprising to see them lose interest after a relatively short amount of time."

So far, demand is outstripping supply. Stores are selling out of the Wii within hours of receiving them. Sales of the Wii are so hot, the Japanese company is widely expected to increase its annual sales forecast of 14 million units for its current fiscal year.

It helps that the Wii is $249, compared with the PS3 at $599 and the Xbox 360, priced from $299 to $479, depending on the features. Last month, U.S. consumers bought 360,000 Wii systems, versus 174,000 Xbox 360s and 82,000 PlayStation 3s, according to NPD Group. ...

Mathieulh posted this update on the status of the Custom Firmware News:

ok a little update on 3.50.

It will be a little more difficult to code a 3.50OE because SCE changed the prx format those are now elfs marked as 0 sections. This means that current tools cannot disassemble those and thus it will be harder to reverse, we need to get ourselves complying tools before going on. We will keep you updated of any progress.

By the way Alex is currently taking exams so he is busy, don't expect a 3.50OE within the next few days.

Nice to have an update on the situation, im sure we can all wait for the next release ...
