We saw the unveiling of Transformers: The Game back in March and weren't too impressed, but Activision promised, with a lengthy response, that the game was early in development and numerous improvements would come.

Looking at this new trailer , some graphical improvements have indeed been made. The robots look detailed and shiny, and the game seems to sport a typically next-gen blurry lighting effect.

We thought the 'Sports pack' range of Wii Remote extensions, which includes tennis racquet, golf club, and a steering wheel cases were about as crappy as it could get for Wii peripherals but we were wrong.

Chinese-based peripheral company, Firstsing, who was also responsible for the sports pack, has now released a USB-powered cooling fan which plugs into one of the Wii's USB ports and draws air from the vent at the back - where Nintendo has already positioned the built-in fan.

It is said to provide extra cooling for what we reckon is the one console that doesn't need any help in keeping itself cool, unless you live on the surface of the sun. What a pointless waste of money. ...

We're all hoping that Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will be so much more than just another on-rails shooter, and the latest details in issue 17 of Official Nintendo Magazine UK gives us plenty of reasons to believe it going to be fantastic.

ONM points out that most of the game played in co-operation with another CPU-controller character, suggesting a two-player option in the final game.

Capcom, according to ONM, neither confirms nor denies the possibility of a two-player mode, but it would certainly need to be split-screen to retain the player's ability to move the camera around with the Nunchuk.

ONM also details some interesting nuggets on the controls. Highly destructible environments let you shoot out plates, chairs, candles, windows, drawers, clocks and more to reveal hidden items and guns. You then grab items by pointing at them and pressing A. Reloading is, oddly, done by shaking the Wii Remote.

Bigger guns don't only give you extra zombie-shredding power but also allow you to open up new paths, like shooting through wooden doors with the shotgun.

Playable characters include Chris, Jill, Carlos Oliveira, Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Albert Wesker, Leon Kennedy and Clair Redfield. Different characters have their own special signature moves (like a roundhouse kick or a knife slash) that are activated by pointing at nearby enemies and pressing A.

You can read the full eight-page preview - which is part of a colossal 16-page Resident Evil feature - in issue 17 of the Official Nintendo Magazine UK, on sale May 11 for £3.99. ...

The first details on an all-new Final Fantasy for the PSP have emerged on the internet - mainly because Square Enix put them there itself via the official game website.

Final Fantasy Dissidia, as it's being called, is being headed up in the character design field by veteran series artist Tetsuya Nomura - and that's about all we know about it for now.

This makes the PSP an essential platform for Final Fantasy fans, with Crisis Core and reworkings of I and II also due on the platform.

More details on the game are promised to spindle from this weekend's Square Enix Party in Japan, where (presumably as well as beer and girls) the company is expected to reveal among other thing s a new Star Ocean game.

Attempts to contact any of Square Enix's UK spokespeople on the game have so far been unsuccessful, probably because they're putting up the balloons and hiding the TV remotes for the party. ...

For you young'ens out there, a year ago Microsoft's most famous bald-headed exec J Allard made a bet with Newsweek writer N'Gai Croal, that the PSP wouldn't reach the same 10 million units shipped within 12 months as the PS2.

If Allard won he'd get to cut off N'Gai's dreads live on stage, but if he lost he'd have to sport a dreadlock wig for the entire month.

Unfortunately for Allard Sony eventually smashed the 10 million barrier on schedule, and the trendy suit continently ditched 2006's E3 show, Jamaican Barnet and all.

360 days later and Allard has finally done good on his wager, sporting a big head o' locks on his official Microsoft bio page and admitting that he was wrong about the PSP's popularity. "I knew that they'd sell millions of them, but I just didn't think that demand could be higher than for the PS2," he said.

"In 2006, I had shifted my focus to a new project called Zune, didn't present at E3 the annual games conference and I had forgotten about the challenge. He reminded me a couple weeks back that I never made good on the bet so here are the promised dreads - 360 days after the last E3 Xbox press conference."

Allard continues, tipping his dreadlocked hat to Sony for "outpacing the PS2 velocity with their PSP".

"For the record, I'd never have been able to cut off your dreads, my friend. I might've clipped one off for show, but could never have butchered your style like that." ...

With the average second-hand copy of the GameCube version of Resident Evil 4 costing around £15, would you really want to pay £25 more for the motion controls of the Wii version? No? Capcom didn't think so either.

That's why the Capcom shop lists the Wii remake for the budget price of $29.95 over in the US. While this converts to around £15 we don't expect it to be any less that £20 over here.

So it's now about £5 for the new and improved controls. That's more like it. ...

Microsoft's always-loud internet spokesman Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb has gone on the defence regarding the recent pay-for Gears of War download.

Speaking on the Major Nelson podcast, MS co-host 'e' said: "Free's great, I know what people are saying. I do find this amusing though; a lot of people may not remember this but a year ago Epic was bragging about how they cost us one billion dollars."

In case you're none the wiser, the podcast comments are in reference to Epic's persuasion of Microsoft to include 512MB of RAM in the Xbox 360 hardware, which ended up costing MS an extra billion bucks-a-roos (we promise not to use that word again).

"I just find it amusing that on the one hand Epic are saying 'haha, we cost you a billion dollars!' and on the other hand they're saying 'well these should be free!'", the co-host said. "It's much easier when you're spending other peoples money."

The Gears Hidden Fronts map pack is on Xbox Live Marketplace, with four new multiplayer maps, now for 800 Microsoft points (£6.80).
