    No-doubt trying to tap into the success of Nintendo's Brain Training, Midway Games have unveiled Hot Brain, a compilation of puzzles and brain-teasers for PSP.

    Also shown at the Las Vegas gamers day event is Touchmaster, a Nintendo DS compilation of 23 of Midway's bar and arcade titles, including Sudoku, Solitaire and Mah Jongg.

    "With both Touchmaster DS for Nintendo DS and Hot Brain for PSP, we're able to tap into our experience with the casual market to create games that work perfectly with the unique controls and features of each portable system," said Steve Allison, Midway's chief marketing officer, at the Vegas event. "Both titles will be able to provide quick three-minute gameplay experiences or extended play-session with puzzles, card games, brain teasers, trivia and more."

    Both Hot Brain and Touchmaster are due out this summer.

    Sony's latest PS3 firmware update (1.5 already? Oh how the time flies!) really has its heart in the right place. None of this magnanimous 720p Blu-ray playback nonsense, or any other help for the True HD impaired. No, this time around Sony is concentrating on what really matters: raking in the cash. See, the update lets you hook up a fancy little PaSoRi reader, which can pull contactless payments from your Edy money card or Felica phone to fill up your Network Wallet with relevant monies. It's all Japan-only, of course, but perhaps one day we can be cool like our island friends. Other minor enhancements include the addition of WEP128 and WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES) for wireless security, and a few other smaller fixes. ...

    This is how to change your background to a more cool and colorfull one like the included pic attached below, + keep the cool wavy lines too

    Right then.

    First download the attached pspfilerv2.4.
    Create a image in .bmp format with the size being 60x34 and has to be named "01-12.bmp" without the ".

    Next go to theme settings on your psp, then to theme, and change it to original.
    It wont work unless its set to original

    next, put the 01-12.bmp image you made in the root of your memory stick.

    start psp filer, once its started press L+R+D-Pad-Left

    now navigate to your 01-12.bmp file and press square then x. press circle now to copy it into the ramdisk.

    once done press circle again.

    press start twice (should say file:[flash0:/]) at the top now.

    go to vsh/ and press circle. now go to resource and press circle. now then, press cross/x then press triangle, press circle to confirm overwriting the previous bmp file.

    and your done

    press select + Start to quit to the xmb and enjoy your new background

    for 3.03oe users just start up recovery mode, click advanced then toggle usb(flash0).

    and in windows navigate (your psp directory) to vsh/resource then just paste/replace the current 01-12.bmp file with your new one.

    i have included the default image just in case you make a mess of it or dont like it.

    Tested on 3.03oec [/U][/B]

    Same method with a few changes works for custom gameboots too on 3.03oec ive just done mine now using the same method but with a gameboot.pmf file. Its in the same directory as the background image, so you should be able to work out how to do it

    I made this guide to help others but take no responsibilty if your psp bricks as a result.

    I hate to admit this, but 1up's Jeremy Parish is way cooler than I am. It's really depressing to think about. Well, okay, maybe he just took the time to register far more Wii friend codes than I ever would. So maybe that makes me cooler; I don't know. It's all so very confusing.

    In either case, this video of 1007 Miis marching in a Mii Parade is demonstration of one extremely impressive feat. I've yet to see more than 15 Miis gather on my Wii; they're lonely and scared. Jeremy -- won't you lend me some of your Miis?

    Since its launch last November, Sony's latest gaming platform has given early adopters trouble when attempting to play certain titles in 1080i/p. The console did not automatically upscale its video output to desired resolutions; it was up to either the game software to support these resolutions natively or the internal scalers of users' HDTVs. This forced many people, developers and owners alike, to question the very existence of scaling hardware in the PlayStation 3.

    Worse, it created a sour taste in the mouths of owners of older CRT-based HDTV sets, many of which are not capable of accepting a 720p signal at all, and thus only capable of displaying 480i/p and 1080i video signals. If they wanted to run their games in HD resolution, the solution for these disgruntled owners until now was to hope that developers would release their games with 1080i/p support --not a walk in the park for the developer-- or, simply, to buy a new HDTV. As one can imagine, the latter was not the most well-received solution in the history of CE devices.

    The key words in that last paragraph would be “until now,” because with the latest PlayStation 3 software development kit (SDK) update, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has finally exposed part of the built-in hardware scaler to developers.

    Will this mean that most, if not all, future games will support output at 1080p/i resolutions? Moreover --and this is the question that owners of 1080i-only CRT HDTVs crave to see answered--does this mean that current PS3 games may eventually support the native HD resolution of their televisions? Well, the answer requires some good old-fashioned explanation, so let’s start already!

    Over the years, so many development teams have tried to capture the same magic that Tetris had in its debut, simply by copying the formula and shifting things around to create their own design. Namco Bandai's giving the genre another shot on the Nintendo DS (Pac Attack was one of the company's first attempts), this one putting heavy emphasis on combo strings. And sometimes, the best part of an action puzzler is managing to string together some truly awesome combos.

    Trioncube is a very simple, Tetris-esque concept where the task is to rotate and stack falling blocks to form three-by-three squares of tiles. Doing so will activate the combo string, which can then be continued by adding more and more three-by-three squares to the activated area. When you're all out of moves or you run out of time to keep it going, the tiles responsible for the combo string turn into coins, which convert into points...and each level has a specific quota to reach in order to move on. The tiles fall in threes, with some pretty crazy stacks that aren't always easy to arrange.

    The presentation of Trioncube is clearly one that the development team had a lot of fun creating. It's clear that the Namco Bandai team that worked on Katamari Damacy had influence over the Trioncube design team, as you'll find some crazy, quirky happenings between levels that's simply too bizarre to explain properly.

    Trioncube doesn't support internet play, but it does have a decent focus on multiplayer using the Nintendo DS system's Download Play -- only a single copy of the game is needed to take advantage of Trioncube's "versus" mode. And because this game's all about combos and keeping that combo string going, the battle can get quite heated with several turnabouts during the competition. ...

    Just how far would you go to save the life of someone you cared about? Some people would sell their cars, their homes, or every possession they owned if it would help out. But what if the only way you could lend a hand was by selling your soul? That's the dilemma that faced Johnny Blaze, the human alter ego of Ghost Rider. One of Marvel's niche anti-hero characters, Ghost Rider is now hitting the mainstream with a new movie and video game. We sat down recently and checked out the Spirit of Vengeance's latest adventure.

    Unlike a lot of film/game tie-ins, Ghost Rider is not a game version of the movie. Instead, comic scribes Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti penned an exclusive story that takes place after the events in the film. After selling his soul to save his father's life from terminal cancer, Johnny Blaze is transformed into the Ghost Rider, avenging the spilling of innocent blood. Unfortunately for Johnny, Mephisto plans to use him to recapture a number of demons that have escaped Hell and threaten to start the Apocalypse. Sending his lackey Vengeance to drag Johnny into Hell, Mephisto essentially leaves Johnny with one choice: fight for him and eliminate the demons that are running wild on earth, or watch as Roxanne Simpson is taken by Mephisto.

    To dispatch the demons, Johnny has a number of moves available as the Ghost Rider. He can use light or heavy attacks with chains imbued with Hellfire, which he can string together to make damaging combos. Once weakened, his enemies can be grabbed and destroyed with a finishing move, which should vary depending on the height and kind of opponent he's facing off against. For instance, flying beasts will be snatched out of the air and pummeled, while shorter beasts will get suplexed. As you complete combos, you'll fill up a spirit gauge, which lets you fire off blasts from your Hellfire shotgun or release chain link projectiles. You'll also be able to trigger a Retribution mode when the gauge is filled, which gives Ghost Rider heightened speed and damage as long as the mode lasts. If you wish, you can also grab enemies within the Retribution mode and perform the Penance Stare on enemies, ripping souls from their bodies and storing them for future use. All of these moves will contribute to a Vengeance bar, which increases the number of souls you receive when you defeat an opponent as long as you don't receive any damage. In fact, some enemies can't be defeated unless you wind up raising the bar, forcing you to vary up your attacks.

    You won't be forced to constantly bash your way through demons all the time either. Certain levels will require the Ghost Rider to take to his Hell Cycle and ride through enemies and over opponents. As he takes off down these tracks, he can use his chains to whip nearby foes, or fire projectiles at distant threats. Ghost Rider will also be able to use boosts to leap over or slide under obstacles. Along the way, you'll collect souls, which can be used to unlock a variety of moves or stat bonuses, as well as movies, concept art and even comic book pages.

    PSP owners will receive some bonus features apart from the console version. Multiplayer matches are available via adhoc races for up to 4 players. There are five different racing environments to go through, as well as three separate race types to try out. Players will also receive different skull challenges to try out along the course of a mission. Typically three challenges will be given. The first two might be a test of skill, such as not getting hit on a level or not using your penance stare, while the third is a wild card challenge like defeating a number of opponents in a specific time. Successfully completing these challenges will earn you additional souls at the end of a level, and you can replay stages over and over if you happen to miss one challenge or another.

    Players will face off against a number of monsters throughout the five separate chapters that you'll traverse, including demons, elementals and humans that have been twisted to follow the forces of evil. There will also be a number of bosses and even fellow Marvel Character cameos, such as Lilith and Scarecrow, that Ghost Rider will encounter along the way. Plus, while the game won't feature the likeness of Nic Cage in the game, the likeness of every other character from the movie will be used, primarily in cutscenes that are presented in a "comic-book" style to help move the story along.
