1up is running a preview of Lost Magic, a game which promises to bring role-playing and real-time strategy together in wedded bliss. The superb Warcraft III certainly pulled that off with aplomb, though this game's take on that genre juxtaposition is somewhat different. For one thing, casting spells is a tad more involved than merely selecting the appropriate command from a menu.
I have to wonder if that's a good thing or not. Obviously, I want the game to use the capabilities of the DS whenever possible, but only if it comes naturally from the design and not as a forced bullet-point to add to the back of the game's case. The concept should be fitted to the hardware, not the other way around. Lost Magic has the player drawing different runes in order to cast spells (with over 350 types available), with each rune triggering anything from healing spells to more pleasing fire spells.
Do I really want to draw some sort of shape every single time I want to heal my magical princess? Why is that I am now forced to use the touch screen in order to accomplish something that worked just fine (and arguably more easily) with traditional controls? I think these are good questions to ask, especially in the light of many great DS games like Mario Kart DS or Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time that didn't really make full use of the stylus. I'm not judging Lost Magic by any means (yet), but 1up's preview doesn't really give me enough information to decide whether or not the rune system is inspired or gimmicky.

GaMeR_2000 has posted a nice review of the game Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS, heres the review:
1 Player Adventure Mode- 8/10 it is fun overall but there is a lot of going back and forth between planets. This can get annoying. There are also a lot of sticking pints. But, I like the level of action and the storyline is decent.
Non-online multiplayer-10/10 there are a lot of customizable options and, if you are lonely and no friends or cant find them at the moment, you can use bots in the multicard mode. As and unexpected feature for me, there is a single-card mode.
Online multiplayer-9/10 the only bad part about this is that there are lack of customizable options unless you play against friends and rivals. Other than that, its solid.
Graphics-10/10 superb for a handheld despite the slightly low polygon count on the characters; there are wonderful environments.
Storyline-7/10 the storyline is about eight things, that I cant remember their name, that everyone wants and the bounty hunters want them. It is pretty decent but could use depth.
Controls- 10/10 great, easy and wonderful thats. It in a nutshell.
Overall-9.5/10 (not and average) great game that everyone whom owns a DS owes it to himself to buy.

Soadnation has released a new compilation of games written in Lua with 2 games included, heres the details:
Ive finished my second game and decided to combined it with my previous game(Twisted Sysytem) and put it into a package called
Mini Games Galore(Temporary title). Since im hoping to make more mini games i am going to use this to bundle them all together.
Controlls
-D-Pad
--Selects game to play
-Cross
--Starts that game
-Square
--Brings up infor about that game
-Circle(while in info)
--Exits info
For controlls of the games just get the info on the game(Square) and they will be in that.

Montrob has released a new stickman type game written in Lua, heres the info:
I have created my first real game. It is called WildSniper. It is a game where you move your pointer around and shoot at enemies.
Controls:
UP -move pointer up
DOWN - move pointer down
LEFT - move pointer left
RIGHT - move pointer right
RIGHT TRIGGER - shoot at enemy
START - exit game
Known Bugs:
-bieng able to hold down the pointer on one enemy and rack up your score
-timer going to 1 not 0 before stopping
If you find any other bugs please post them.
Changes:
v1.1 - added death animations

slicer4ever has released a new version of his Paintball game for the PSP, heres the details:
well yes i've been hard at work on it and yes the gfx still suck unfortuantly but heres updates:
1. option menu
2. max of 10 enemys(note more enemys mean slower game)
3. increased speeds
4. a little bit improved ai
controls:
x = fire
O = hide behind when prompted to
./\
/__\ = exit hideing
notes:
speeds vary as number of people on screen
max 10 enemys
auto sets to 10 enemys go into options to change

Games retailers have updated the release date for Gears of War to November this year, given that nothing regarding the release has been made public yet - could this be the big day?
EB Games / Gamestop are now listing the highly anticipated game with a November release date, right around the Playstation 3 launch.
While Microsoft have previously stated that they will carry on with their Xbox 360 release schedule regardless of when the PS3 launches, the coincidence is nonetheless noticeable.
