It's a fact! Play too many violent videogames and colonel sausage will be shooting sticky white ammunition without the protection of his magic tin hat all over town. That's according to a study published in US journal The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, which concluded that gaming nasties foster "permissive attitudes toward violence, alcohol use, marijuana use, and sexual activity without condom use".
Which sounds like a pretty run-on-the-mill Friday night to us. However, the study, conducted by researchers in San Francisco and Pittsburgh, and entitled "Effects of Media Violence on Health-Related Outcomes Among Young Men", used 100 males aged between 18 and 21, randomly assigning them to play either Grand Theft Auto III or The Simpsons: Hit and Run (which is, frankly, just mean).

It seems that those participants forced to bathe in the unholy perversions of GTA III "exhibited greater increases in diastolic blood pressure from a baseline rest period to game play, greater negative affect, more permissive attitudes toward using alcohol and marijuana, and more uncooperative behavior in comparison with men randomly assigned to play The Simpsons". Although the scientific methodology is unclear, we'd like to imagine it involved surreptitiously sidling up to participants mid-game and whispering "I could really do with a spliff and a beer right now - how about you?".
Anyway, the report reached the conclusion that "although youth growing up in violent homes and communities may become more physiologically aroused by media violence exposure, all youth appear to be at risk for potentially negative outcomes."

Interestingly, the wholly conclusive findings of this report have made us so angry at game developers, we're off to go punch someone in the face. Next up: "Effects of Academic Studies concerning Media Violence on Health-Related Outcomes Among Young Men". ...

Hoorah! Lara's back! After years in the wilderness following the despicable Angel of Darkness, everybody's favourite buxom bounty hunter has fought off the mighty EA juggernaut by knocking the largely rubbish The Godfather from the top spot in this week's Chart Track all-format top 40.
For the most part, the game's a grand old return to form, thanks to developer Crystal Dynamic's feisty reinvigoration of Lara's main assets - so well done there, you. With The Godfather now loitering around at number two (somewhat appropriately), it's non-mover-tastic at number three as FIFA Street 2 fails to shift either up or down.

Meanwhile, there's a slightly surprisingly chart propulsion at number four as Ice Age 2: The Meltdown rockets up from number fourteen - presumably at the behest of a thousand nagging pre-teens. Not much action at five and six however, as Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter sits quietly on its arse at the former and Animal Crossing: Wild World deservedly remains in the top ten at the latter position.
There's a mighty plummet from two to seven for Bethesda's glorious The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (apparently it's now shifted 1.7 million units worldwide), meaning that hilarious "tumbling into..." joke is drawing ever closer, while DIY Electro Shock Therapy emulator BUZZ! The Big Quiz slips from four to eight.

At nine, there's a re-emergence from the void for Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Championship Manager 2006 takes a tumble from nine to ten. Elsewhere, the mighty Guitar Hero debuts at twenty eight, meaning we're off to go hang ourselves in despair. All in all, not a terribly exciting week for the UK charts, but let's be honest - when is it ever?

    1. TOMB RAIDER: LEGEND
    2. THE GODFATHER
    3. FIFA STREET 2
    4. ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN

    6. ANIMAL CROSSING: WILD WORLD
    7. THE ELDER SCROLLS IV: OBLIVION
    8. BUZZ! THE BIG QUIZ
    9. NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE
    10. CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER 2006
    11. BATMAN BEGINS
    12. FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3

Die-hard Gun fans with itchy trigger fingers can scratch their worries away now that Activision’s revealed more information on the game’s release on PSP. The first-person shooter, which should trot into stores this fall, will be developed by Neversoft and UK-based Rebellion Studios and will feature PSP-exclusive features like extra missions, a quick play mode, and multiplayer modes (although we're unsure if GameSpot implied "modes" to mean both Ad-hoc and Infrastructure).

Gun didn’t fire off blanks when it debuted last year on all major consoles and PC, but as with all ports, we’re still hoping that the retooled control scheme and graphical scale-back don’t cripple this pony on the PSP. ...

Many of you will know i used to have an Interview site with Great Interviews with Coders from many Homebrew Scenes.

Well with that in mind, im going to try something unique and whilst it may fail it is something that ive never seen done before and thats a mass interview of all the members and thats 40,000 + members , whats going to happen is that ill ask maybe 10- 12 questions, one a day over a 2 week period to see who we are and what we love about emulation and homebrew.

So to start the ball rolling (remember never give personal info out unless you feel safe doing so) ill ask a question and answer it myself then its over to you the members of the only Console Homebrew Network in the world.

Question #1 - Can you tell us about yourself, where you're from, and about your job, school, etc?

(yes easy one to start but it lets people know about you)

Well im the webmaster of a group of sites now totalling 18 (mad git), ive been a fan and more of emulation and homebrew since at least 1997.

I am from the city of Nottingham in the UK, famous for Robin Hood, Torvill and Dean and Nottingham Forest and sadly Gun Crime capital of the UK (it seems that way anyway).

Went to school at 2 sites in probably the roughest part of the city but on the whole enjoyed school but was glad to be rid of it .

For my job ive been a Gardener on an award winning park for nearon 18 years (i am 34 btw) and whilst i enjoy my job i cant see me doing it for years to come.

So thats my answers, feel free to join in this experiment of a mass interview on the DCEmu Network, answer via the comments. ...
