PC made up just 3% of UK boxed video game sales in 2014

UK boxed PC game sales continued to fall heavily in 2014.

The market generated £30 million last year - a dip of 30 per cent compared to the £43 million made from boxed PC game sales in 2013, according to UKIE and GfK Chart-Track, as reported by MCV.
If you compare this to data released earlier in the year from the Entertainment Retailer's Association, which shows that UK boxed video games (including console and PC titles) generated £948.5 million, it means boxed PC game sales make up just three per cent of that market.
However, the UK digital PC software market (including downloadable content, online multiplayer titles and social games revenue) was worth £741 million in 2014, claims SuperData. This represents a nine per cent increase on 2013’s total of £706 million.
The fall in boxed PC game sales is no real surprise, considering the huge popularity of free-to-play online games like League of Legends and download platforms such as Steam, and the severe lack of boxed titles for sale in High Street retailers.
