Will an international TV standard ever be possible?

With technology moving forward again in the television market, I was wondering if there would ever be an international standard on TV refresh rates?

Specifically, manufacturers in the US have started to incorporate a double refresh rate into some of their tv models. Instead of the common 60Hz, they are doubling it to 120Hz on many high-def TV models.

Is anything like that occurring there in the UK, or other parts of Europe? Does that mean people there will get 100Hz TV sets...? :rolleyes:
