Registering my DS

I'm new here and I hope I'm posting this in the right thread.

No doubt you've been asked this before. I have a Nintendo DS lite that was sent to me by family in the US. I can't register the bloody thing on Nintendo.com as it won't accept registrations from the UK. and I can't register it with Nintendo UK because the Product code is not accepted.

I've looked around their site but can't find the answers to my question - can anybody here help, Please.
