'Mortal Kombat' Killer Gets 36 Year Prison Term

A who pleaded guilty to killing a 7-year-old Johnstown girl during an alleged imitation of a violent video game will spend 36 years in jail.

Lamar Roberts pleaded guilty previously to child abuse-knowingly/recklessly causing death in Weld County District Court. He was sentenced on Friday to 5 years on parole in addition to the lengthy jail sentence.

Prosecutors say he and his girlfriend Heather Trujillo were baby-sitting Zoe Garcia on Dec. 6, 2007, when they kicked, hit and slammed Zoe to the floor during an imitation of the "Mortal Kombat" video game.

Trujillo was Zoe's half-sister.

She pleaded guilty in May to child abuse-negligently causing death. Her prison sentence was suspended on the condition she successfully complete six years in Colorado's youth offender system.
