fMSX PSP problems - garbled text?

Managed to get fMSX 3.5.351 running on my fat PSP (latest CFW 5.00 M33 3.6 or whatever it is - the most recent), and now I've got a problem.

I loaded Jagur and instead of displaying Japanese text, it displays gibberish, like the KANJI rom didn't load or something. Why is this?

I really need the text to display otherwise the game is unplayable.

Also, Cross Blaim doesn't work. I think it's a megarom? Anyway, it has a really weird mapper. Does fMSX for the PSP support it?
