Help simplifying the start up process?

i've got a samba share of movies that i have just set as visible to the wii using mplayer-ce. everything is working fine (watching 28 days later as i type this) but now what i'm interested in doing is reducing the time and button presses before being able to select a movie.

My housemate is not very tech-savvy and any effort to reduce complications would be brilliant. ideally i would like to add an mplayer-ce channel to the front screen or perhaps a way to get mplayer-ce to boot when i start up the wii.

I have searched for the answer (don't know whether you'll believe me though :o) but found there are hundreds of tutorials for the basic things yet nothing for more customizable or advanced wii modding
