With new features previously only available through the digital download only expansion pack, the road to success is much more difficult to traverse. Now Governments hold sway over the actions that can be taken. Senates and tribal council's will order players to conduct Missions they see fit to test players abilities to achieve their goals. Players can also gear their nations to their ultimate goals with the enactment of beneficial Laws. While AI controlled opponents behave with more vigour and purpose, as they set about surviving the turmoil of these times.

Enhanced intrigue options allow players to plot and scheme further, as character now belong to particular factions that hold sway over the seat of power. Characters become a law onto themselves, with their own agendas and demands. Those that support your ambitions can be placated with awards, tribute and positions of power. While those that prove to be an obstacle to your plans, can be imprisoned, banished or executed.
