ps2 psx memory card failure?

hey, sony's support email is down right now, wondering if any of you know what's going on. my slimline ps2 won't read a psx memory card. i tried plugging the psx memory card into another bulky ps2, and it works 100% ok. but my slimline won't even see it in the browse menu. some games (like Spyro), say "Memory Card Unavailable" when trying to save to it. while some other games (like Valkyrie Profile), appear to save correctly, but then when i tun off my slimline ps2 with it saved, it doesn't see any save at all on the memory card. anyone have any idea how to fix?
