Intel gains ground on AMD in market race

Intel now holds an 81.1 per cent share of the global PC processor market
Intel managed to tighten its dominant grip on the processor market through the third fiscal quarter, according to IDC’s quarterly report.
Intel now holds a holding an 81.1 per cent share of the global market, a surprisingly sharp share gain of 2.2 per cent no doubt due to its Atom processors and the rise of netbooks.
Nearest rival AMD lost its grip on the market share to a similar degree – dropping 2 per cent to 18.7 per cent.
“By form factor, Intel earned 88 per cent share in the mobile PC processor segment, a gain of 1.1 per cent,” read the IDC report.
“AMD finished with 11.9 per cent, a loss of 0.7 per cent,” the report added.

“In the PC server/workstation processor segment, Intel finished with 90.4 per cent market share, a gain of 0.5 per cent and AMD earned 9.6 per cent, a loss of 0.5 per cent.”
