Low Mhz mp3 player
There are plenty of mp3 players out there but someone should do a fairly simple one that can play any mp3 and test at what lowest Mhz it will play, that way we could have a long battery life mp3 player.
The PSP plays them at 222Mhz, but a Pentium 100 can easely play an mp3! 111Mhz would give almost double battery life.
What do you people think? Crazy or not?
-
I'm not sure how well this would work. It would increase battery life, but 111Mhz wouldn't double it, because your not taking account of the power use of the components of the PSP aside from the CPU, such as the screen for instance.
-
IRshell can do it already
but it relys on your firmware of course.
any thing that is hardware decoded can go to even lower cpu speeds, there is a mod for custom firmware which can put the cpu speed at 50 for playing Atrac3 and movies as they rely on hardware not software

well give me a week or so, I am going to make this my project for starting on C programming for PSP, it sounds like a worthy cause to create an app that runs MP3's at the lowest possable CPU clock speed..

i think one of the new custom firmwares does this aswell
what firmware do you have
-
I have 1.5 fw. But i don't want to flash my PSP with a custom firmware, i don't wanna mess with that.

yeah its probly not worth risking a brick for longer battery life
