USB Mouse instead of Wiimote?

I know this is gonna sound weird, but is there any homebrew app that would let you use a USB mouse instead of the Wiimote? I know it's impossible to create full motion with a mouse, but in certain shooter games, the Wiimote is only used to show a reticle on the screen, and I though maybe I could use a wireless mouse instead, particulary in Metroid and Resident Evil 4.

The reason I'm asking this is because I knew that The Wii Emulator on PC used to let you use mouse to move the cursor in Wii Menu.

I also know that Wiimote's pointing mechanism is different than it's motion-sensing mechanism. (Uses infra-red, I think)

So I thought it would be possible.

I used a mouse once on the browser, but I don't recall the pointer moving from anything else.
