Can I change the name of already patched roms?

Topic title sums it up nicely.

I've got my M3 Adapter since yesterday, and have written a few rom files to my CF card.

Can I change the patched rom names (and change the respective save file name accordingly)? Can this be done manually?
Can any problems come from this?

Try it, make sure to change the sav file name aswell and if it doesn't work change them back

Don't see why it wouldn't work.
I think I've already done this with no problems.
