is custom firmware saved on the MS or the psp actual memory

i just wanted to know if custom firmware is installed on your Memory stick or on the psp's memory

half and half it mods you 1.5 to load prx's and settings from your memory stick but it also adds recovery mode to flash.

so what does it exactly do

well I have the original dark alex poc firmware and It hides my corrupt icons lets me use 1.0 eboots keeps it from going straight into the umd game lets me recover from partial bricks and lets me load straight into and aplication such as xflash to re-flash if somthing is screwed or devhook with modded hold down r to go to 1.5 dont to go to 2.7.
