Is anyone else having trouble?

Maybe it's me, maybe I figured the controls would be like Big The Cat's story from Sonic Adventure. I've never played this game before, or a fishing game for that matter, and I find myself getting like, 17th place in tournaments. I have no idea what lures to use (as if it would tell you which one's benfit you) and the fish seem to hate me certain rounds, they look straight at the lure, but never go to it. Am I doing something wrong? Anybody know what exactly I'm doing wrong or have insight on proper lures to use?
