Ah, well thanks guys. I actually found a simple solution to fix this, actually. It seems there is a HUGE difference between the "normal" and "easy" difficulties. The normal difficulty is always set when you start playing, so go into the options menu and change it to easy. Trust me, it makes the game a lot easier to play.
