Yea, there is a way to go back.
wow how descriptive....... i think you just use recovery mode. a recovery folder comes with the firmware just put whatever upgrade you want in that folder and the folder in games and execute. i think... it mite go in game150 im not sure.
hallsguitar, did you degrade back to 1.50, cause i thought you upgraded to 2.71 SE
and to answer the question, to change your firmware (as you can degrade/upgrade to any firmware from 2.71 SE) you take the RECOVERY folder from the files for recovery folder in the 2.71 SE zip (or rar whatever) and put it in the GAME folder on your memory stick. then get the update eboot for the firmware you want and rename it to update.pbp. put the update.pbp in the RECOVERY folder.
no turn your PSP off (if its turned on), hold R and turn your PSP on. finally select run program at /psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp and press x
