US government could ban in-car entertainment

New rules being proposed to end all activities that 'aren't required to safely operate moving vehicle'.
The auto industry is all over in-car entertainment, viewing it as an important buying factor for choosy drivers.
Ford, for example has created the 'Sync' platform, which offers voice control over entertainment and other functions. The system puts smartphone integration at its core, which is one reason why Ford will have a major presence at MWC next week.
But now the US Department of Transport is working on new rules that would require car makers to end the use of mobile devices in moving vehicles.
The plans will be targeted at communications, entertainment, GPS and information fields that don't provide drivers with safer vehicle use. They will recommend criteria for electronic devices installed in vehicles that need visual or manual operation.
Secretary LaHood, says: "Distracted driving is a dangerous and deadly habit on America's roadways - that's why I've made it a priority to encourage people to stay focused behind the wheel.
