Any idea if it will work with MMD in the near future?

Unless the MMD supports GBA mode, then no. Goomba Color is a GBA program, so unless your homebrew device has the RAM needed for GBA playback, you're out of luck.

Somehow, I doubt that.

And what is it exactly with MMD that makes it so hard for things to work with it?
