BlackBerry might lose UK government exclusivity

Security changes could lead to other smartphone platforms being allowed.
Until now BlackBerry has been the only smartphone allowed to be used in government in the UK because of its unparalleled security. However, that might be about to change.
According to Computer Weekly: "Currently, Blackberry is the only smartphone device with impact level 3 (IL3) accreditation for information deemed sensitive to the working of government.
"However, under the new Government Protective Marking System (GPMS) the IL1-IL3 categories will be loosely classified together as Tier 1 (T1), which is intended to open the government market to a greater number of smartphone providers."
What this boils down to is, security will be mediated using third party clients running on other platforms, giving government staff and officials the ability to move away from RIM's device and into the arms of… say… iPhone and Android?
