Complete nublet with some questions

Hey folks, I just picked up a Game Boy Micro, and combined with my Supercard SD, it's an awesome piece of kit. However, I have some questions.

1) If it would be possible, could you tell me the names of the best emulators for the following formats:

a)Nes
b)ZX Spectrum
c)I'm not quite sure if the Gb can handle this, but Megadrive/Genesis
d)Gameboy/GB Color

2) and most importantly, I can't for the life of me seem to find a music player, this was an important factor when I bought the thing, as I don't have an MP3 Player.


I may have a few more later, but thank you for taking the time to read these ones, and here's hoping you can answer them.

1. PocketNES, hands down. See http://www.pocketnes.org for the official 9.98 release, or visit http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=2147 for the unofficial 9.98 release that has more features. 9.99 was also released, available at http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=4709 but there have been reports of some incompatibilities with it, so I personally use 9.98.

2. I don't know if it exists

3. The GBA isn't powerful enough to emulate the Genesis. There is a limited emulator for the DS called FrodoDS

4. Goomba Color. The latest official release is Apha 6, but you can download an updated WIP release from http://www.dwedit.org/dwedit_board/v...c.php?pid=1740 which includes a fixed black border (instead of the ever-changing border from Alpha 6) and limited Super Gameboy borders and palettes. There's also a GBC + SGB mode that sometimes will allow you to use both the GBC colors and the Super Gameboy borders, but it doesn't work on all games with support for both.

There is no mp3 player, as the GBA is not powerful enough to decode mp3s in real time. However, there are two music player applications you can use. I already posted a huge summary of each of them at http://www.emuboards.com/invision/in...howtopic=27935 so go there for info. Long story short, I recommend the GSM Player.

Hey, thank you for your kind replies. It's great to know there are people out there who'll dedicate some of their time to help a brotha :D .

That GSM player looks pretty damn sweet, I'll check it out soon and report back.

As for the nes emulator, that looks ace. If anyone wants to reccommend some good Nes games, feel free.

Thats against the rules because it implies that you are going to illegaly go and download the roms that people say are good. If you had read the rules before registering you would know that.

The GBA can play mp3s, sort of.

Go to the supercard homepage and click on the menu tab labeled "soft" . There you will find the FilmPlay software and the movie encoding/converter software(also converts audio and images). FilmPlay can play audio files once they have been converted to gsm. You can also encode movies, fitting about 30 minutes of video onto 256MB. The video quality is not great but the converter has some neat features such as automatically breaking the video up into chunks. Break 30 min of video into about 10-20 chunks. That way you can fast forward, and the sound stays synched better.

zxadvance is an excellent ZX emu and an amazing piece of software. I have used it to play many games. The only drawback is that it does not play tape or disk images only z80 image format. If you want to play those you must use an emulator in windows to load the tape or disk image, and then save a z80 memory snapshot.
