145 million tablet shipments expected in 2013

New research indicates that tablets sales will continue to prosper due to price drops and increased competition.
2013 already looks well on its way to becoming a key year for the tablet market, with international market intelligence firm ABI Research predicting global shipments to top 145 million.
The research suggests that price drops and growing competition from companies utilising Windows software will lead to bigger sales.
ABI Research also expects the ever-expanding choice of devices for consumers to play a crucial role in boosting tablet shipments.
Meanwhile, the report indicates an increase in the uptake of Windows tablets set to reach the market over the next 12 months.
Jeff Orr, senior director at ABI Research, commented: “The rate of innovation is slowing as tablet vendors augment their product portfolios to meet the needs of market audiences. The late 2012 launches of Apple’s iPad mini and a variety of slates based on Intel architecture and new Windows operating systems will only begin to show their progress this year.”
