Death to cameras: 58 per cent of Americans only take snaps via phones

While 33 per cent of two-timers use a digital camera with their smartphone.
With the improvements on smartphone cameras flooding in fast and furious, it is becoming more and more apparent that we reply more on our mobile devices for taking pictures than we do on our dusty digital cameras, with 58 per cent of Americans saying they just use their phone for photography, according to Suite 48 Analytics.
Only four per cent use a tablet with their smartphone to take, edit, share photos or buy photo products and apps on - and only five per cent use all three devices.
The number of people who have admitted to just using their smartphone for camera purposes has increased in 18 months from 37 per cent, indicating to the rapid improvement of photo-capturing-capabilities.
Recently, mobile manufacturers have focused more on the quality of the cameras on their devices, such as Samsung with the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which has a 10x optical Zoom and loads more improved camera-gadgetry, and the Nokia Lumia 1020 with its 41 megapixel camera and its claim to have reinvented the zoom.
On the flip side, however, Samsung has released a new camera, the Galaxy NX, which embraces mobile technology via the integration of Android, 3G, 4G, wi-fi, apps and so on.
Hans Hartman, president of Suite 48 Analytics, said: "With smartphone market penetration still growing and camera optics and photo apps still improving, smartphones are rapidly becoming the most used device for many photo tasks."
