Sorry to post this here but I didn't know where else to put it.
One of my Dreamcast's F1 resistor was recently blown out by a first party controller!
I fixed it the ghetto way by carefully connecting the blown F1 legs with some wire.
What negative effects could this have?
What resistor would be the best to replace the blown one?

You might wanna get a 10ohm resistor. Running the DC without resistor could seriously damage it, because there won't be anything to filter high voltages. Apparently your DC already experienced those, otherwise your resistor would still be intact. So I recommend getting a new one as fast as possible. You can also look here for some info:

Yeah I had better get the soldering iron out and buy a pack of resistors.
I am still shocked that an official controller would destroy that F1 resisitor. I always thought that it was the third party controllers that did that.

Does anyone know if it is 1/4 watt or 1/2 watt?
well, according to the guy who posted a reply on the page i posted the link to above, it's 1/2 watt
Thanks again. I have seen it listed as both 1/4 and 1/2. The bulk of the people who had good luck fixing this problem used 1/2.

Somehow I managed to mess up.
The controllers now work but the Dreamcast crashes after about 30 seconds of being on.
This probably means that messed up the Dreamcast for good.
I dunno if this is due to my using the wire fix from before or if my amatuer soldering skills
Or maybe the 10 ohm resistor I used let too much power through and fried it.

thats really shitty. did you try to solder the resistor out again and rewire the pins just like before? may be that works
I dunno. I tried to manually link the new resistor but that didn't work.
I don't think that crashing after powering up for 20 seconds is a control board problem. I might have damaged something else. Or didn't reconnect something properly.
I suppose that the new resistor might be a problem and I should take it out and try again. I mean I can't break the thing anymore than I have already.
It seems like people that manually twist the resistor or use wire to connect it actually have more success than those who actually replace the damn thing.
Also there seems to be alot of confusion on what wattage is best. 1/2 is what alot of people say but others say 1/4. The 1/2 one looks alot bigger than the one that's in there. So I supose when I tear this one out I am gonna use a 1/4 one next time.
I dunno. My Dreamcast seemed to work perfectly with the wire ghetto fix and now I broke it trying to do a fancy fix.
Yeah so I found out that the whole "20 second" shut off thing happens if the fan doesn't turn on.
The fan doesn't turn on because I must have not plugged it back in correctly or screwed up one of the wires.
So yeah. I think I did replace the resistor correctly, I was just sloppy putting everything back in.
