same thing happens to me sometimes
The red circle appears if u lose ur gps signal. I think :p.
it appears that hdop value jumps
hdop stands for horizontal dillusion of precision and depends of satellite angles, signal to noice ration, etc..
google out more if you need...
red circle warns you that your position may not be accurate...
