Crytek threatens to leave Germany

Far Cry and Crysis developer Crytek has threatened to uproot its operations in Germany and set up camp in another country if a proposed move to outlaw violent games comes to fruition.

Speaking in an interview with Welt Online, translated by heise.de, Crytek founder Avni Yerli said that contingency relocation plans had already been drawn up incase a new move by The Conference of Interior Ministers (IMK) to ban 'violence dominated titles' came into play.

"We would leave Germany," Yerli said. "Budapest is a lovely city. We already have a branch office there." Yerli also noted that the company has been sounded out by governmental departments of other countries such as England, Scotland, Austria and Singapore concerning a move.

Back in May, the IMK unanimously decided to ban the production and distribution of 'violence glorifying games'. With 'violence dominated games' now also under the spotlight, Germany could lose one of Europe's most prominent developers.
