Tories consider action on violent videogames

Conservative Party leader David Cameron is due to unveil a mini-manifesto shortly which will include dealing with violent videogames as a part of his approach to dealing with crime.

Speaking to the BBC, Cameron outlined a number of changes needed to address the "broader" issues on crime, rather than the "one-dimensional" approach he said is being taken by the current Labour government.

"We are never going to deal with crime unless we look at the broader context and say 'Yes, tough laws, strong action on police, but also action to strengthen our society.'"

"And that includes, I think, videogames and things like that where we do need to think of the context in which people are growing up."

No further details as to how any policy relating to video games would be worded have been made available as yet, although a fuller explanation of Cameron's plans is expected soon.

hopefully they wont go to ban them in any way, mb just re inforce the age limits, whihc in my own opinion if people actually followed wud solve a lot of problems. if a game is 18 its made 18 for a reason just because its a game doesnt make its content any less significant.

You're right about the age rating system. If people followed it like its designed to be there would be a lot less issues involving violence in games and films

still annoying new modern mp's trying to be "hip" and tap into the younger generation...mmm

This makes perfect sence!!!

Because we all know murders and such should be blamed on videogames, and not on the person pulling the trigger!

People having to take full responsibility for their actions is just wrong...

Iv been playing violent video games since i was like 10, and im not pre-disposed to violence. but i suppose its really up to the parents buying the games for the kids. I can just see it now :

"knock knock"
"yes, hello are there any children playing video games in this house hold ? "
"yes, f**k off im having fun"

This coming from the man who equated piracy with terrorism and child pornography.

This is a man who voted for an illegal rapaceous slaughter in Iraq and is ratcheting up the death squads for Iran.

As someone who voted for the supreme war crime (as defined in international law, the war of aggression), complaining about violence sounds somewhat hollow.

I play the so called "violent" games yet advocate and protest march for peace. I wonder how this idiot manages to square that.

Another point to add to my long list of "reasons why David Cameron is a twat."

I don't care about politics. But I know a twat when I see one.

An idea that should go down well with the 18 and over game players, who by a strange twist of fate can play mature games and vote.

He also must be the by-product of reading to much porn as it seems to have an effect on him, as its been pointed out, he's a twat.
