Datel Tool Battery

I just got a Datel Tool Battery for Xmas
and i tried to use it and it didnt do anything
I have what i thought was a magic memory stick
but it didnt seem to work
my PSP remains bricked

do i need a different kind of magic memory stick if i'm using the "store bought" battery?

Start from the top and do it all again cos i cant imagine the tool battery will be at fault.
