Phat PSP 3.80 downgrade w/TOOL and a friend

I recently bought a used PSP Phat + 4GB memory stick and want to play homebrew on it. The problem is it has fw 3.80 on it. :(
I wanted to put on a custom firmware to play homebrew/PS1.

I tried making a pandora and to say the least, it did not go too well :eek:

I heard of the Datel TOOL battery and i thought it was a premade pandora! ... I was wrong. :(

Then, i heard that if you have a friend that has a PSP with a custom firmware (which i am fortunate enough to have), you CAN use the TOOL as a pandora.

Is this true and if it is, what will my friend and i need (besides the TOOL) to install a custom firmware on my Phat PSP also instructions and a link to a good tut would be nice.

Did you have the files to downgrade the psp when it is in service mode?

Or did you just buy the tool battery and use nothing else.

No, you don't need to use your friend. That TOOL battery is enough. I am uploading an installer to megaupload which will do all the hard work for you installing it. Just follow the stuff on the screen. After that, put in both the memory stick and the TOOL battery and it will come up with a menu that will let you directly install 3.71 m33. do that, and you're already on the custom firmware, with no need to downgrade and re-upgrade.

Yeah, you need to put files on the Memory Stick first. Its pretty much because when you put the TOOL battery in and you are in service mode (where you can boot unsigned code), You're there, but there's no applications to run...

I suggest backing up your memory stick first, because you'll lose anything on it.
Just run the START.exe file and it will tell you want to do.
When it asks you what to install, put the number for Despertar Cementerio.

This is what i am going to do:
(PLEASE correct me if i am wrong)

1. turn on PSP and format memory stick (using normal battery)
2.put PSP into USB mode
3.run START.exe
4.type PSP drive letter and follow from there.
5.let START.exe do its thing
6.turn off PSP and insert TOOL battery.
7.follow instructions to install 3.71 m33!
