Reccomendations for cheap car insurance

Ok I learn how to drive in March and I am planning on purchasing my first car probaly either a Citreon Saxo or a VW Golf GTI probaly the Golf GTI. Now I have been doing some research and on some insurance providers I am looking at £3000 a year yeh I know pricey. I was thinking of checking out Tesco's car insurance anyone got a reccomendations on cheap car insurance.

Lloyds insurance is meant to be cheap.

Barclays is supposed to be good for car insurance, my parents are moving their home insurance to Barclays soon (both the cars too I think).
