do i need this to run psx games?
running 3.90 m33
If your PSX games were running on 3.80 m33, then give them a shot on 3.90.
If it doesn't work, then there may be a patch needed. Let us know details! Information is a two way street... you'll feel good for contributing some new knowledge to the community!
I think, though, that from what D_A said about how similar the two firmwares were, everything that worked in 3.80 should continue to work in 3.90.
ive never done 3.80 at all, and this is my first time running a psx game. it boots, and after a health and warning screen, it goes black
should i download popsloader for 3.80?
Check this thread to see if there are any documented issues with the game you're trying to play. Lots of PSX games are problematic even if you do everything right.
Again, if the game you're trying to play isn't on that list, then post what game it is and what's happening when you try to run it. That way you'll save someone else the hassle that you just had to go through! :D
Crash Bandicoot 2 = Works (NTSC) [PAL Freezes at BIOS]
thats, but should i download popsloader 3.80 for my 3.90 slim?
Hmm... I'd assume you're trying to play the NTSC version, then?
I've rarely run into a situation that REQUIRED a lower popsloader. I think the existing (3.80 POPS) plugin should work, you'd just need to have the proper IRX files from 3.80 in the proper folder within seplugins.
This isn't something that'd brick your PSP if you try it and it doesn't work, so give it a shot!
how do i get the irx file?
That would involve a copy of the 3.80 update EBOOT.PBP and a PSAR Dumper, I believe. There should be some more detailed instructions inside the POPSLoader Readme.
i didn't see anything, can you link me a guide or tell me how
when i boot the psx, it asks me what version of pops to use, but it only goes to 3.71
