Hello!

tomasN, just checked boulderdash and fist 2, both work fine.
snickasnoo, what games are you trying to play, maybe i can check them for you, there are many different versions of the same game.
Thank you, anthonyharris!
I'm going to buy a NDS tomorrow...
One more question:
What equipment (flashcarts, memory?) do you use?
Tomas
I use a G6 lite and passcard 3. Very easy to use
Awesome emu! Great work. Grew up with a C64 so its amazing to have a portable one. Still can't get over the touchpad keyboard (Digging frodods and all the emu's with it - pomDS, styx). Frodods is want finally made me cave and get a R4DS.
I've got some multi disk games to play, just saves don't work - Autoduel, Below the Root, Space Rogue and Roadwar 2000. Hoping saves or savestates will one day be added.
Been enjoying Gateway/Temple to Apshai, the Wolfensteins (cant build a new castle but can play the one currently saved when copied to DS - I need to try using pc Frodo to reset the castle and reimport to DS), Impossible Mission, Load Runner and others. Got Gunship to work and fly a bit but now get a roster corrupted error so need to put a new copy on the DS and try to not attempt a save. Also attempted Raid Over Moscow but I've forgotten how to open the hanger doors which is a problem I had even on the real C64 so I just fly around the hanger :)
Keep up the good work.
EDIT: FYI, I'm using the latest version from this forum and haven't changed any settings in the config file.
I am a huge Neuromancer Fan. I play it on the PC alot finished it hundreds of times. Also finished Portal on the C64 long time ago. When I try and load disk1 of the game, it just goes to a black screen and nothing else. I can run the same rom in frodo for the PC and it works fine. Harm|
The snapshot gets me to the game start of Neuromancer but then it goes to a blue screen and it sits there. Tried the on the PC it is does the same thing. Thinking maybe my rom is bad. I can get it to work with other emulators nut no frodo. Which i thought it had worked on. And the emulation being off is what was causing the others to not work right. Harm|
I was just thinking, if u can easily load a snapshot by pressing x, could you not save a snapshot by another button, maybe select. just a thought..
Not sure if everyone but me is already doing this, but dsorganizer is a good way to switch between snapshots or pref files. Use its file browser to rename the files on your ds so you don't have to swap your files between your pc and ds.
I used pc frodo to get my snapshot, then use dsorganizer to rename it jjr.fss after renaming the old jjr to gamename.fss (I just load it first if I forget what game it was). Same method can be used to quickly switch preference files if your testing if something needs 1541emu or not, etc. A lot quicker than swapping files between pc and ds :) I'm new to this whole homebrew thing so maybe there is some other way, but this works good so far.
For some strange reason, frodods has got me more interested in the c64 again than pc frodo. Think because on the PC I want to play my newer games, but on the ds the c64 games still look good and play good.
Yeah i'm the same way :)
Thats an awesome suggestion to use DSO for. Right now the plan is to all booting snapshots from the left trigger file selection list, if the extension is .jss then it will boot it as a snapshot. Eventually will have a gui to select the different option in the pref files as well, just not really good at doing menus/guis so that will be awhile.
I would like to get saving working but so far haven't been able to debug why its not working yet.

I had a successful save! <faints>
Playing Shogun, I used the game's save function. Then moved my character to another place on the screen (different location in game) and tried the load function and was back at my savepoint. I then turned the DS off and then back on, loaded the game, and was still able to load the save. :)
I had tried this with Below the Root and the game's save/load worked while I kept the DS and the game on, but after DS reboot the save wouldn't load up and the screen got corrupted. Autoduel would let me save but my guy was always dead after reboot or after restarting the game from the game's menu without a reboot.
I have no clue why Shogun works and others don't. All were d64 files. Shogun is 1 disk while AD and BtR were 2. Later I'll try to find some more 1d games with save functions to see how work for me. Card I use is the R4DS.
Saves on Beyond Wolfenstein and Gunship hose my dsk images so I have to copy over new ones to play them again.
Just surprised that one worked since the others didn't. Off to enjoy the ones that don't require a save and to find more games I used to play.
The c64 emulator starts fine. I can select an *.d64 image but when I try to load somehting from it I got an "device not ready" message.
Any clues?
Regards
Till
Try using the left trigger to reselect it. I used to have to sometimes double or triple select them to get them to run. I then edited my frodo.fpr (preferences file) and removed "maniacmansion_2.d64" from the line that says "DrivePath8 = maniacmansion_2.d64" so it was just "DrivePath8 =". Now it works with just selecting it once. Sometimes it is a bad rom too and you need a different copy.
Firstly, Thanx GPF for a FANTASTIC app.
At last, I get to play my old C64 faves like Starglider, Panther and Bruce Lee again.
Quick Q for everyone else on the board though, I've tried every .d64 (and now .t64) of the following games but can't find any that work:
ACE
Auf Wiedersehen Monty
Thrust
Has anyone found roms of these that work with the latest FrodoDS and R4/M3Simply?
Back to the prog, I've set the frameskip to 3.5 and find the trade off between speed and screen flicker acceptable. 3 is slightly slower but easier on the eye :), but I even found 4 to be OK on most games.
Overall, thanx for this great emu and keep up tthe good work.
Glad to see all the activity here. :)
Happy to hear your still working on saves GPF :)
Interesting news about saves working in Shogun, thanks creepy, I gotta check this out.
Great stuff, looking forward to playing many a game on this ! Good luck refining it further!
I've been testing saves also and found some other games that save.
Expedition Amazon by Penguin Software seems to save and function.
Phantasie by SSI saves to disk but I haven't left the town.
Phantasie 2 by SSI saves but seems to corrupt the code. It's too bad. I can walk around and go into a couple dungeons, but then I suddenly get a 'bad subscript error' or something.(this actually might happen in regular PC Frodo.)
Most of these games don't even save on Frodo for the PC, and even when I use 1541 emulation, the code becomes corrupted or maps become garbled. I guess that is why save states are needed.
Running R4DS card with v1.11 firmware. I can get the emulator running fine, but can't get the Game ROM's to load. Grabbed the samples from the download at the very start of the thread. Is this the latest version?
If I download ROM's from romguy.com are rename to .D64 will these be OK?
The first version of the software I used, I could only get the Jumpman working, when pressing X. Now nothing loads, but the settings file in /RD has disappeared?
I don't seem to have the settings file to edit in the /RD directory? Is this a problem?
Can someone post a version that works with v1.11 of the R4DS, and offer any advice how to get it working. Bruce Lee was one of my all time faves on the 64, along with M.U.L.E, and I would love to get this working. I've tried for over 5 hours to get this working!
HELP!
Cheers, Lee
Got it working. Ignore my stupidty.
Anyone got Commando.T64 running? Bruce Lee is as good as I remember...
Cheers, Lee
I have tried every single suggestion in this thread, but no matter what I do, I still get "device not present" error when I hit the right button to load an image.
I've tried all the various versions of Frodods and nothing helps.
Please help me ..
What device(card) are you using?
Is it DLDI compatible? If so...
Download this
http://psychowood.altervista.org/getDLDIrc.html
Install it and choose your device when asked.
Newest version of FrodoDS
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/att...9&d=1189437595
Right-click FrodoDS.nds and click your device from the menu. The patcher will require that you press space, twice I think.
Make a folder named "rd" in the root of your card.
Running .d64 roms from anywhere else will cause a "device not present error"
Hope that helps
Hi crookedmouth.
I just followed your instructions word for word for my R4 and I still get device not present errors.
I can't understand why this emulator is so difficult to get to work when other emulators seem fine and don't need patching.
Any more tips?
same here for r4 (both with/without dldi patching) !!!!!!!!!!! damn, we need to know how to fix this
I have the r4 and it works fine for me. I used the latest version in this thread - v83007 (not the one on GPF's main page - v30507).
I unzipped the file which defaulted to having a RD folder with files in it [c64 system rom files, frodo.fpr (Settings file)and some snapshot files (fss)] and the frodods.nds file. I added a few games to the RD folder and then copied the RD folder and nds file to the root of my r4/microsd card (R4 does the autopatching).
Occassionally I've had to double select a game before it would run but it works fine for me. I would double check that the nds file and then the RD folder are in the root of your memory card. Then make sure all the files that came in the zipped RD file are still in it.
Also, what games are you trying? Try some from this thread that others have got working if you haven't already. Bruce Lee and Blue Max d64s work for me. Maybe try the same game but from a different source.
I did forget to mention that the 1541 ROM, BASIC ROM,KERNAL ROM,CHAR ROM and Frodo.fpr need to be in the rd folder :o
In case that isn't it, I've attached a version that other R4 users have got working. I forget which version it is and weather you can alter Frodo.fpr(frameskip and whatnot but I included it anyway),but it worked for them.
It is all set(prepatched), just download and extract directly to the root of your card.Boot it up, Press left shoulder button, choose test.d64 with the A button. Press Right Shoulder to auto load first program. It should be a menu. Press "1" and return. This is a program I know works on my DS. It may require you to change joystick ports, by using the Select button.
Hope this works for you guys.
Woohoo!
It worked when I copied 1541 ROM, BASIC ROM,KERNAL ROM,CHAR ROM into the rd folder. They were on root directory. Thanks a lot crookedmouth.
Does this emulator support saving snapshots? Can't seem to save any but when ever I hit "X" that jumpman game snap shot comes up, as if that was the snapshot still in memory from a previous user. Also the number of times I keep hitting "Start" to START playing and then it resetting. I've lost count, very annoying indeed.
But the main thing, it works! :)
I thought old commodore 64 games would be awesome... THOUGHT. They are really boring, I will not go below ATARI 2600.
-BUT you did an execelent job Creating this emulator and it works great!
-Look up "ATARI Jaguar Emulator" In my posts Im offering a decent sum of money to who can creat a SUCESSFUL one on NDS, or a Sucessful one on The PC that can Play ALL GAMEs not just like 3!
-Hazey
Sorry I left out the part about the ROMS. The file in the rd folder named jjr.fss is a snapshot of JumpmanJR that GPF included in an older version. He added a bunch more that you can just rename to jjr.fss and use the X button to load it. You can make your own snapshots using Frodo on the PC and saving them to your card as jjr.fss, but frodods doesn't do snapshots nor saving. Like you said the most important thing is you got it working. :)
Out of the 12000 games made for the C64, every single one is really boring? Nostalgia does play a big role in the fun factor of the c64 but thats a broad statement hazey.Won't go below the Atari2600? As much as I love the 2600, that's pretty insulting to one of the best selling computers of all time. Atari2600=1977, C64=1982, they are both 8bit machines but thats about all they share in common.
Even with my woefully limited knowledge of emulation, I can safely say, "You will never see a Jaguar emulator on the DS ever", this statement is nothing like when someone said "you will never see an snes emulator on the GBA." because my statement is true.I just saw this from a readme about Jag emulation "A faster processor is seriously recommended !
For sound emulation, you probably need a 2+ GHz processor." Honestly you must know this already the DS has trouble doing Genesis even without sound. Heck the Atari2600 emulator isn't full speed.
Virtual Jaguar- seems to run more then 3 games.http://icculus.org/virtualjaguar/

Why not buy a real one?
Darn I let myself get of topic. Oh well, bottom line, to a lot of us the C64 will remain the best gaming machine we had(although I loved my Amiga) :)
Yeah shame about the saving thing, I wanted to save my progress on Bloodwych, one of my favourite games but I can't! :'(
I also have the CPC464 Emulator and Speccy one.
Brings back good memories of when I was a kid and on those you can save and load snapshot on the emulators. Comes in very handy, was certainly hoping the Frodo one did the same. If not for save games but just so you can snapshot at the title screen without having to load all the cracking screens everytime.
As for the Atari 2600. My mate had one, if I'm not mistaken the games on it were worse than C64. There certainly wasn't as many games to play on it and had slighter poorer graphics if I recall.
Even Spectrum I thought was better than Atari 2600.
Remember you can save snapshots on the PC frodo then move them over to your DS, but only one.
You can also use DSorganizer to switch between different snapshots by editing the name to "jjr.fss" for the one you want to use while renaming the old jjr to something else (Back to game name so you remember what it was).
I see there haven't been any updates in a while. Is there any news at all on the state of this fantastic emulator.
Hi,
I have tried to get the emulator to work on my m3 but no luck with any disk images. I get the error message
searching for *
?file not found error
Ready.
Run
Will it only work with specific images. The test file works but no other images will. Do the D64 files have to be a certain lenght.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
I had the device not found problem too, and after a hundreds of test, my conclusion is:
the device (or file) not found problem is because a bad rom!!!
I have a R4, and i tested with and without patch, changing the folder rd, changing pfr file (config)......with no result, always the same result:
?device not....
i downloaded a frodo emulator for my mac, and i tested all games that doesn't run i frodods, and i saw that in frodo in mac doesn't run too.
I search for others roms, and i found one or two that run in frodo for mac, and i tested in frodods and voilá, also runs!!!!
I want to thanks crookedmouth, because in the last post he puts a frodods, with a rom to test. If you want to know if your problem is frodods(config, patches....) or a bad rom, test it with that rom. If it runs in your frodods, you will know that your problem is the version of your rom (game).
(sorry for my english)
