Thanks angel. Worked fine just like you said.
Has anyone else tried the original method Deniska suggested as far as using the 2.71 and Mapplus (Japan) PRX modules?
I tried them before his "update" was released and I felt those worked better for me as far as finding a faster lock on satellites. I'm going to try the original method when I go back out on the road....
Now Im getting a lock after ten or fifteen minutes on a clear day. Before it was less than five minutes.
I Used The Gmdl0.42 Tool To Get My Maps And It Just Gave Me A Bunch Of Picuters, How Do I Get The Map This Application To Read Them?
Nik,
If you're doing what I first was doing, I know what your problem is....
You have to let Gmdl finish the task (On the top of the program you'll see a progress bar). Even if you see "2x, 8x, etc" in your specified directory, don't assume Gmdl has finished its task. When its all done, the program will turn the contents of said subfolders into "GPSFS" files. THESE files are the ones that are to go in "/mapviewer."
Hope this helps.
Does anyone know how to get turn-by-turn directions on Mapthis? I would like to have turn by turn directions or at least have the roads I need to turn on to get to my destination appear highlighted. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh and Deniska, I did get irsmp3.prx (plugin) to work. I now have my mp3s playing in the background when I'm running your software!! (mp3's need to go in /psp/music and not the new format of ms:/music. )
Thanks in advance to helpers.
Guys,
I tried the latest beta with FW3.10 OE-A and it seems to work ok at least for a short duratin of time that I had to test it..
If you still have problems check following things:
1) Get the latest set of prx files from 3.10 fw dump using the psar dumper from C+D team. (press circle)
2) You may need to disable some fw plugins and they consume memory. MapThis needs lots of it for caching the map imagery
3) If you always get stuck on map loading - perhaps your memory stick is corrupted - try copying files from it to HD, format it and copy them back.. you may need to create a new map...
I just received the holux to psp cable made by pooka and fupeng, thanks a lot guys!
Works great! For those considering it - it is 75cm (30 inches) long and took about 4 business days from Beijing (to the UK) via registered mail.
See pooka's post for more information: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/sho...&postcount=269
I have had time to give it a pretty good going over from my last post. Here is what I have done and found. I reset my PSP settings to default, reformatted my memstick and reinstalled MapThis! with 3.10 PRX files. Maps loaded with 0.461S but as soon and I put the updated eboot on (0.461s_1) (From here: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/att...2&d=1169502942 ) it refuses to load the maps. l redownloaded 0.461s_1 and extracted straight to the PSP to no avail, still will not load the maps. Then to get it to work again after a crash I needed to delete reinstall the program again (Not the maps tho).
In summary a clean format and install with 0.461s seems to work fine untill you try to load 0.461s_1.
0.461s on 3.10OE-A is unstable for me tho but at least it sort of works. I dunno what 0.461s_1 was supposed to do anyway so I'll stick with 0.461s and I'll wait to see what 3.11OE-A brings when it gets here or wait until Deniska can find out more.
I have yet to get mapthis to get a signal Ive tried on the 3.03OEB and now the 3.10OEA. I have the 3.10 .prx files and Im in 3.10 kernel mode.I have been very successful with green screen 7 sats with 5 fixes but my longitude is a negative value does this mean anything , any suggestions would be helpful.?
Edit Well I am getting some signals but no fixes Im wondering why the mapthis doesnt pick up the same sats as the green screen. In the green screen you can the location value I have the best luck on 0 is this where the mapthis is set and how would I check?
Very stupid question but have to do it
How do I know that the GPS is Working?
I installed Map this without no problems and ran the program too, but it does not seens to work for me....
When I run the GPS Tester it defines my initial location
But when I turn Map This on, GPS never connects....
What am I doing wrong? Could somebody help? it loads the maps and stay not pointing my initial location
Hey Deniska great program. Even with the PSP 290 I usually get 3-4 bars even on this rainy/cloudy day inside my truck. Works very good for me. It even started up in only 1min and 45 secs today for me which is fast even for me. There is only one thing that I would like to ask: When im in the closest zoom level the arrow is very choppy when moving and has quite the delay ie:When I am driving about 35 miles per hour and pass a road in real life it takes about 2 seconds before I pass the same road on the gps. Is this sort of thing fixable? I saw some settings in config.txt but not sure what to change. Its almost as the gps needs to "refresh" with the satellites faster and more.
Thanks in advance
(PS: Not very educated about the workings of a gps system, these problems could just be normal)
hit the square button to turn the gps on. go to the menu by pressing start, and scroll down to select "gps info" where you should start seeing satellite info...
or do some kind of predicting in relation to the current speed you're travelling..
i upgraded to 3.10oeA the other day.. It works for me just the same as 3.03oec.
I am still testing
I have a 1.50 original firmware on my PSP, and I also have DevHook 0.52 emulating 3.03.
My question is quite simply, could I run MapThis on 1.50 or on DevHook 0.52 ?
i put the five files it gave me of my city, and when i turn it on it just says "please wait while map is loading" and then it shuts the psp down. can some one help me?
i go the lasest verison 3.10oe-a
The recever send coordinates updates once a second... therefore you may see some chopiness and small delays...although 2 secods sounds a bit too "delayed" - I'll take a look at my code...
Unfortunatelly, it's kinda hard for me to test/ improve it since I rarery get continuous reading in the car, driving through my area... :-(
Thanks Deniska! To tell you the truth that is the only real problem that I have!! The "lag"(choppiness) and the delay. I used some velcro to put a simple psp stand (one from logitech amp) on my dash and it stays there beautiful receiving signals through my window. Tonight I went to a function at a school about 30 minutes away and even though it was foggy and raining it was still getting 3-4 bars the whole way there. Even reaching 5 bars or whatever the max is when I got to the school! (high elevation let me note) Thanks again Deniska Im sorry to hear about your experience inside the car :(
Hum... that's my problem, I've already have the PSP-290 Sony Original GPS.
When I try to run the MapThis on Devhook 0.52 emulated, I always have that famous message: "Loading USB Accessory module... error".
I've already tried many configuration files of (usbacc & usbgps), and always receive the same message.
:(
Well, I can confirm the 3.10OE-A and OE-A' map loading error on two PSP's, a white and a black. Anyone know how to contact Dark_Alex?
Hey Deniska,
Yesterday during a fit of grief due to not being able to get a "fix" on a satellite, I thought of an idea: Why not put the prx modules from Homestar: 21st Century. I remember running this (Japanese) game when I first got my PSP-290 and I locked onto a few sat's within seconds, even inside my house.
Anyways, I tried looking inside the ISO but found only two prx modules none of which were the ones used on Mapthis. Any idea why that is?
1. What is the function/purpose of "INITLOCATION=1"? (I remember trying "0" and found that "1" worked a lot better. I was wondering if I should try "2" since I couldn't find a fix last night for over half an hour - although it was a bit foggy in Los Angeles- and I want to get full operation on your program)
2. How does "directions that follow the roads" work? I tried placing a POI file I created using Gmdl that supposedly directed me from home to my destination and when I loaded it on Mapthis, nothing happened.
3. What am I doing wrong with the directions and is there another method of getting directions?
Thanks.
P.S. I tried irsmp3.prx plugin and found that while it works fine playing the first song and the following ones, the program crashes when I tried to skip to the next track. Pause, however, worked just fine.
INITLOCATION value is being passed to the usbgps method with the same name.. I am not quite sure how it works, therefere see what works best for you...
Once you create directions file - you should be able to see it in POIs section... (it will be displayed as a bunch of dots in current implementation...
During plugin play, map this is most likely crushing because it can't allocate enough memory.. so... no good advice there... (perhaps playing lower bit rate files would help.. not sure...
I also get crash with latest version of mapthis with psp 290 and latest OE. Fix please thanks :)
i got the lastest verison 3.10oe-a and i finally put me my whole metro area on here and when i browse through it, it just gets stuck randomly and then i got to pull out the battier to reboot it, or it reboots by it self.
and another question, how do i get addresses on here? so i can search an address?
Just to report something unusual...
I have just recently bought a white psp with original firmware 2.71 and TA-082 motherboard. I got it down to 3.03OE-C with the 2.80 downgrader.
Thing is, when I run Mapthis on this psp, I found that it gets a fix as fast as the green proggie and after a run for some time, I can get full 5/6 bars.
Before this, I was using an older black psp with 3.03OE-C and using the same memory stick with the same files, performance was poor, hardly getting to 3 bars, same locations.
Well, it might be the weather or other factors, but I just want to say that I might have been wrong before about Mapthis because the good results with the new psp has happened consistently(more than 5 times today with at least 10mins run). If anyone has similar experiences, please feel free to post. :) I will post if results do differ again.
Interesting...
I have 3 theories about this:
1) slightly higher output voltage on TA-82 thus more power to PSP-290
2) less electical noice/interference that the new chipset provides..
It would be interesting if someone ran this receiver through some kind of usb extention cable, taking it away from PSP, to see if that makes any difference...
3) satellite luck ...
Anyway, keep testing..
thanks for the report..
Deleted.
Has anyone translated what it reads on the instruction book for PSP-290. It's all in Japanese but the pictures indicate that (I believe) best reception comes when you leave the GPS receiver "flat" and not upright. In other words, the GPS receiver has to be perpendicular with the psp.
I've noticed that it gets best reception this way too. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone read Japanese and could decipher all of this.
here you have the instructions in some lenguages ;)
Sorry to come to this forum with a question. But I have been working with the PSP-290 GPS device for over 6 hours with the same trail and error as this user: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=51350
The only difference from me and this user is that I am working on a 1.5FW with the latest DevHook Emulator (v0.52) Emulating 3.03.
My question is, will MapThis! (0.461S) work with DevHook v0.52?
Any information would be greatly appreicated.
i did a somewhat extensive test on my PSP-290 with MapThis and the green proggy for 2 hours around my area in toronto yesterday.
my conclusion confirmed that the best prx combination is with a 2.71 usbacc and a 3.03 usbgps. it performs slightly better than a 3.03 usbacc and a 3.03 usbgps. (and of course alot better than a 2.71 usbacc and a 2.71 usbgps.)
it was especially true on the green proggy as i would definitely get a fix within 1 min 30 sec, most of the time within 1 min. (and for once it took less than 20 sec, and it was done with a 'freshly copied' set of prxs! meaning it hasn't been ran with the program before and that it contained no satellite position data.)
when i tested the EXACT same set of prxs on MapThis (i copied the 2 prxs that has just been used successfully on the green proggy over to MapThis, meaning the usbgps.prx contained as much as 12 satellite data, supposedly), it is a different story. MapThis had trouble detecting more than 2 satellites most of the time, let alone getting a fix. and it would have to restart my PSP-290 once in a while. (the program even completely stopped (gps state: off) my PSP-290 a couple of times when i tested it with a 3.03 usbacc and a 3.03 usbgps, fyi.)
therefore it confirmed that the green proggy DOES get a fix alot easier/faster than MapThis.
all of the above tests was done with the new eboot, 0461S_1 (mhz: 222), inside an idle car in an open area, with a white japanese original firmware 2.0 psp (running 3.03 oe-c) at the same position at all times.
it was even more difficult to get a fix with MapThis when the car was moving slowly.
Hope the information helps...
Thanks angel, that was very helpful information. (I just tried your method and I also got a REALLY fast fix (within one minute). I also noticed that it found a lot more satellites than usual.)
Has anyone else tried loading directions onto MapThis? Whenever I go to "POI LOOKUP" and load the directions, it gets to "loading data" and freezes and then the psp shuts off. I notice that it freezes when I do a "POI LOOKUP" AND the "TRACK UP MODE" is on. It seems like it cannot do both at the same time.
Whenever I can get POI LOOKUP not to freeze, it just "blinks" "loading data" real fast and does nothing, i.e. the map does not change and just stays the same.
Anyone get the same problem with freezing? Anyone get directions to load up successfully?
I tried it a couple of times, works great for me. No problems there.
BTW, angel and PSPLaywer, do you guys have TA-082 motherboards for the psp as well? Just curious to know. The green proggie still works best in comparison but I noticed a vast improvement from my new psp.
upon further testing, setting the initial location to 1 gave me the best result of the three. i got an average hdop of 3.4 (3 bars) with initial location 1, compared to an average hdop of 2.2 (2 bars) with initial location 0, and even had trouble getting a fix with initial location 2.
and yes, with the gps logo of PSP-290 facing upward does provide the best reception.
