They're still all Mario games though, I've really enjoyed the Paper Mario series.

I agree. Mario Land 1 was fun, but Mario Land 2 was a big improvement. I loved playing it when I was young :)

Yeah, but this poll is thinking about the main PLATFORMER games in the franchise.

The original. After the N64 Mario lost it for me.

I enjoyed Super Mario World the most out of all of these. My next favorite being Super Mario 64

I agree. 2D Marios are the best, followed by Mario 64. After that, I kind of just lost contact with it.

Mario Sunshine (on the list) isn't of the main platformers though?

2D = Paper Mario! (I had to add that) :)

The best on the SNES anyway (followed closely by Mario RPG), nothing can really beat Mario Bros. and Mario Bros.3 on the NES as without them Mario would have never been as popular as he was when he left the 8-bit era and entered the 16-bit era, which Mario "All Stars" re-reminded the 16-bit generation of the 8-bit success (in upgraded graphics - which made them cooler).

The 8-bit success of Mario has gone continuously for the past 23 years, since 1985, and Nintendo continue to sell Mario Bros. today (on the Virtual Console), as well as Mario World (both are significant titles). :)

Mario Bros 3 was probably the best Mario in my opinion. Just the levels and everything about it is so amazing for a NES game.

And Vampdude, Mario Sunshine's a platformer... and one of the main games in the franchise. And as you can see, it's tied but in the lead with Mario World.

But still, Paper Mario is awesome. And the only reason I didnt include it is because the poll list shouldnt be THAT long.
