Are antidepressant drugs an accomplice in the Virginia Tech shootings? (opinion)

I've used Lexapro for about a year for anxiety. Nothing but positive effects thus far. It isnt fair to blame all anti depressants on a single drug that MAY have had some negative psychological effects on a kid who was already having all kinds of problems.

Yeah, you can't blame something like this on just one thing. It is easy to look at a list of things about this killer, point your finger at one item on that list and say, "this must have done it".

We joke in my college about how this might lead to a crackdown on English majors (since he was one).

Of course, being an English major myself, I know that that would be ridiculous. Still, I have thought about writing a satirical paper on how English majors are prime candidates for murderers (eccentric, like to spend time alone, strongly opinionated, immersed in the writings of often-troubled people, etc...).

Am I the only one who finds that statement amusing? Yea, SSRIs can be and are prescribed for panic disorder, general anxiety disorder, etc. so I know there's nothing particulaly wrong with what you said, it just sounded amusing. Also, I am rather concerned at the over prescription of such medication for things like "trouble sleeping", however, medication is often not the answer here, and if it is, SSRIs should be used after other medications, and NaSSAs, but, each to their own.

I didn't even elaberate into that. There's a lot more then what I said. And I've seen specialists so I know what I'm talking about. They said that the sleeping problems was due to anxiety.

Plus I didn't even go into that statement. I've been on them a long time ago because people thought I had some kind of depression. I was on them and I felt this "feeling" got worse. I think a lot of people think that the drugs are linked, not the direct cause.

But I'm kind of confused about how my sentence was amusing. I mean it might have been worded with short sentences and lazy writing but the general idea is quite serious.

this is a non issue. if antidepressants push you over the edge you were probably pretty close to it anyways.

this guy killed 30 something people along with himself. he wasnt man enough to face life and for some reason we feel the need to give him excuses for what he did. ENOUGH.
