The easiest hing to do in Maptis is turn GPS-mode on, press Start--> GPS info
There you can see if it trackes satellites and if he lock's them.
It could take a while before he locks the sattelites, just keep the PSP very steady (Even holding it in your hands doesn't improve locktime, so usually i lay it down on the ground/grass in its protective case).
And also play a bit with the angle of the GPS-transmitter.
alright i'll try that. and the baud for the 290 is 38400 right
edit: tried it, i found like 4-5 satellites but it didnt fix on any, waited like a couple of minutes.
also when im in mapthis and in the gps info screen, one of the things says LOC: 0 and im able to change it to 0,1, or 2 by pressing left and right, what exactly is the LOC? location? if so what does each number mean?
for the 290 - baud doesnt apply at all
as for LOC...
I am wondering what that is too
LOCation?
Satellite LOCk method?
Just wait al little bit longer, mine usually locks in about 10 minutes or so, also depending on the wetter.
Just let it lay down, and have patience
Don't know exactly, but I read that it isn't that important to change it to 1 or 2.
It doesn't give you faster fixes and locks
i managed to get it to work. i had it all installed fine, just needed to wait a bit. it wasnt fixing when i just layed it down near my window or went out to the backyard but it seemed to work when i went in the car, prob cuz it was more open.
i just laid it on the passenger seat and it fixed after like 2-3 minutes and seemed pretty decent. wasnt that accurate, a little off and not that sensitive, but it was decent for only $60 compared to $200 for others.
I read somewhere in the threads it could be th emaps you downloaded or a bad sync with a satellite throwing you off a bit.
I am off sometimes but I dont mind if it appears I am driving on the sidewalk
yeah a little off isnt that bad, doesnt have to be super accurate, but its bad if its showing u like on the next parallel street or something lol, but it didnt do that, but that would be bad. but it just showed me as like on the sidewalk on a smaller street then on a bigger street it showed me on the road, so its cool.
but i just went out again and tried and this time couldnt seem to get a fix. it was around the same area as last time but didnt seem to fix, just found like 2 satellites. prob just fixes much faster on bigger open areas. i'll try around more diff areas and types of settings.
i did modify the config file and changed the meters to feet with the value they gave and changed the speedlimit from 5 to 70, but i cant imagine that being the reason for not fixing.
also the speed limit is in mph right? it was on 5 last time and kept showing it so i assume it was everytime i went above 5mph which was annoying lol.
but can anyone tell me what the LOC means though? i read it doesnt matter much but whats it mean? and whats the 0 1 and 2 values mean?
EDIT: argh i give up, i cant get it to fix anymore, just worked once. i went back around the same area and it finds like 3 sats but cant fix on any, i waited a few minutes to. b4 it only took like 2 minutes. i dunno whats wrong with it, it did fall once, cuz i had it on the dashboard and it slid off and fell so i dunno if that damaged anything? it still seems to work and find sats, but it doesnt fix now, and when i shake i do hear a little thing inside shaking, and its not the screw cuz im holding it while i shake and its like a little thing moving inside? is that normal or is it cuz i dropped it.
oh well i'll prob just sell it on ebay again, its just too slow, i cant be waiting 10 minutes for a fix.
I was driving in the car this morning, stopped at a light, hooked it up as fast as I could before the light changed, and then drove off, and before I came to the next light, driving at like 45mph I had a fix... I was amazed that it could fix while I was moving so fast. It only took like a minute...
Nope, that isn't normal.
Shaked my GPS for you, and didn't hear something moving inside the GPS, so you might consider it broken.
But ofcourse you can try to fix it again, to see if it is really broken or not.
That's not bad at all.
I still havent give it a spin on my motorcycle, hope to do so next week, when where off to Luxemburg.
Gonna be the ultimate test :D
