I hope so. Although my card is a 32MB.
Even though this thing does multimedia, I'm gonna buy the GP2X for that AND homebrew.
But I might get a bigger card for things like demos and PS1 games (once I get the PS3).
Technically speaking, this "emulator" isn't an emulator at all. An emulator actually has an executable file that you run, then load an image of your game. I know everyone here knows exactly what I'm saying but it still needs to be said. The PS1 game downloads are simply ports of the originals for the psp, not emulators/roms. That's why it is so hard to actually code a ps1 emulator comparable to this. Sony has $Millions and they can easily hire pros to port the games over, a simple task with sdk's and such.
Just my $.02
what type of files are the games then? hmmm...
this seems pretty cool but id say once some1 gets it on there psp theyll find a way to upload it onto the wweb for ppl to dl and hack eheheh than once some one like the person who made ps1p will find a way to bring ps1p up to good standards
From my understanding of what I've read, they are .pbp files (same as game demos), downloadable ports of the original ps1 games. They aren't .iso's of the original cds, meant to be played on an emulator... they are PSP executables files.
Take for instance, I have an original PS1, (when I say original, I mean the OLD one with the RCA jacks on the back) and I have Final Fantasy VII for it. I also have a low end Pentium4 pc, and I also have FFVII for the pc as well. That doesn't make the PC version an emulator, it's a port, released specifically for the pc.
I do, however, have ePSXe, (the best free PS1 emulator out there) which plays my Playstation version of FFVII perfectly.
Of the 2 options, I prefer to play the pc port over the emulator. Why, you ask? Simple. It WORKS better. Official ports from the company that makes the game ALWAYS (well, ok, maybe not always, but hypotheticaly) work better than any emulator.
But to actually have to own a ps3 to get this working is horrible.
Whats the point of even playing final fantasy vii on the psp if the psp's batteries only last like 3 hours? Final fantasy vii is like a 70 hours + game unless you rush through it. Then its like 30 hours. Either way, what the ****? Or will final fantasy vii magically not suck all the battery life out of the psp?
Hmm... The second comment of this negative nature Ive read from you
For a start virtually any game on the PSP cannot be completed in a single charge (ever heard of GAME SAVES?) and how many of us really have 30+ hours to spare in a single sitting
Once again you posting a comment seems a little pointless
The Sony PS1 games are not ports, but are not flexible emulators either.
The emulator uses static recompilation. That is, it translates the PS1 executable file to PSP code AT DESIGN TIME, NOT EXECUTE TIME. That is, the translation process is done AT SONY HQ's. Which means it's IMPOSSIBLE to just stick another game in there.
Basically it's running PS1 code pre-translated to PSP code, and emulating the rest of the hardware (sound, video, etc) while fetching data from something that's probably the CD image packed in there somewhere.
