Ok SO Whats the Best Firmware for Homebrew and Emulation Now ?

I have to admit to heavily thinking about upgrading my 1.5 since I last posted. The thing is I would lose a couple homebrew programs I love, like themepsp and others I have heard don't work properly.

The only reason I have to upgrade is for the psone emu, but I'm guessing 1.5 owners will have their own version at some point.

I've held out on upgrading since the day the psp came out, I'm attached to 1.5. I'm too paranoid to ever change what I already know works perfectly for me to something I don't know all that much about.

So yeah, PSOne emu for 1.5 please, no rush lol.

Well Sharkey I was in the same boat as you. And luckily for me, I had a PS1 rip sitting around since I last tried the 1.5 PS1 Emulator, which didn't play the game at all.

I figured I had nothing to lose, so I went ahead and got OE-B installed, no problems. First I was marvelled at the sheer fact that I could run MGS:PO without needing to startup devhook -> goto 2.8, etc. As well, Online works, which seems to be a problem with Devhook .51.

Then I tried to the PS1 Emu, dismayed to find out that you need Hot Shots Golf 2 (or some PS1 game that you purchased and its keys.bin.). This bothered me at first because the main reason I upgraded was the PS1 Emu, and then I realized that I was SOL, since I don't own a PS3, and I am not about to buy a game simply to make my other games work.

So I procured it through other means and took my RE2 rip, ran it through PopStation and within 5 minutes I was playing RE2, perfectly without any problems whatsoever.

That really sealed the deal for me. I was a huge proponent of 1.5 and it still holds a dear place in my heart. But just the ease of OE-B and no hassle approach... Also, everything just WORKS. As of yet, I haven't tried all of my homebrew with OE-B, but so far the two things I did try (ScummVM and Bomber Man Arena) worked fine.

I feel like I have cheated my 1.5 brethren, but OE-B is a good solution for anyone looking for all the best features without the headache.

3.02 launches homebrew the same way 1.50 does. it will run any umd game without the need of devhook or any other crap. if you follow the directions its pretty safe as long as you dont have a ta-82(i dont think you could have 1.50 running if you did). it also has a bunch of other really cool features you'll like, especially if you've been away for a while(web browser, psx games, looks cooler:D, etc). bottom line: UPGRADE:thumbup:

@ F9zDark: Damn, you make a good case, and you understand where I'm coming from. I am too stubborn to leave what I'm come to know and love, a proud 1.5er since day one. :) Upgrading makes me feel ill.

The only complaint I have with 1.5 really is the corrupted icons clutter and the occasional need to KXploit or Seipsptool something, no big deal really.

I'll probably reconsider in a couple days after I've thought about it more and have read up on the homebrew compatibility a bit more. It's 2:30 in the morning now though, and I'm not about to make an importnant decision like this when I'm barely awake. :p

3.02 OE-B can run all the program that 1.5 can :) . It makes no harm upgrade to this wonderful homebrew , just follow the instruction and everything will be fine :p .

Dax's cfw are exellent. 3.02oe-b is only out one day and already 1.5 users are flocking to it in droves. For anyone who is still afraid of bricking their 1.5..don't be. The install is easy and safe as far as i'm aware there is no confirmed bricks from updating to any of the se or oe firmwares as long as you have a compatible psp (rtfm) and follow the instructions.

Poor 1.5. You were the god amongst Firmwares just yesterday and now a newer, younger FW has taken your spot. 3.02OE-B! It can do anything! Play Homebrew, PSX games, make my breakfast, drive me to work...ANYTHING!!! (I wish :p)

I now have a shrine dedicated to OE-B in my basement which I spend 2 hours a day worshipping. I thought me and 1.5 would be together, forever but it was not to be...

Since I didn't start with 1.50 my opinions are like this...

2.00 - I loved it back then and I was too scared to downgrade so this was the only way to go for me lol

2.60 - I had to buy a new PSP which came with 2.01 so I had to go up to 2.60 and use the GTA:LCS save exploit. Lots of good times, but then...

1.50 - OMG! I finally decided to downgrade and I saw what I was missing all that time. I had the best of both worlds with DevHook. 1.50 was the firmware to have.

3.02 OE-B - I think it's time to say goodbye to 1.50 because this custom firmware can do it all from what I have read.
