lol it'll be a definite 10 when its complete...

Heh, I was thinking the same thing :P thats why I had comsidered releasing it in a contest (and possably winning) but I desided not to as that would mean that I couldnt release it before another coding contest, and I would rather let the public play it instead of waiting for a contest to start.
but thanks! I hope its a 10 out of 10 kind'a game :D
hello all....
i think im back to normal now? women!!!!!! ahhhhh!!!
any way i think the coding comps are around august... if there is anything early august it might be worth holding off a release a couple of days and then entering it into a compo...
also what do you think of a primarily piano composition? perhaps with some faint percussion as well( although a piano is percussion:p) or some strings chords, i sat down at my keyboard the other day and this thing just flowed out of my fingers, sounded quite good, if i can get a new midi cable i should have it done in a week at the most...
that would be good, we need somthing for the main hall.
I think it would be good for you to enter it into a contest, the one at pspupdates ends on august 20 and thats about a month off. Plus that gives you more time to make it better for a good public release.
I was gonna say the same thing lol...Quote:

I just might, I'm not sure yet.. but I'm sure this kind of game would win 1st place :D
if you think it will win then do it!!!!!
(i think so too)
only trouble is competing with PSmonkey!
well true! I think I might, and try to finish up my other projects and get them in aswell lol...
yay
finally got a midi cable, can start production very soon, only problem is this damm uk heat wave, highest july temp ever in uk.
it burns it burns!
haha, its hot in the US too :P
and good news on the MIDI, now you can make some more music! :p
Hi all,
I'm finally back from my trip. Chicago was great. I'll be working on the engine test build this week (with cameras and pre-rendered backgrounds), and next week I'll get the collision mesh working.
Gotta add sound at some point too.
glad you had a good time
ive done a quick demo of the track im working on, it is very very rough, i just wanted to give everyone a taster
heres the link
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3P6MX77J
should work, i tested myself, i thought id use mega upload to save the site some space.
i was thinking it could also work as a menu theme instead...
any chance you could upload that song to DCEmu rather then megaupload?
how come?
i just thought keep it external as it is a very early test
oh what the hell here it is
remember i ve just started today , so its rough like... erm, rough like a shark, or sand, or ...or a council estate 12 year old mother of five ...erm yeah
hmm nine posts away from evil
ahhhhh
hmm.... any chance you could make it more musical? or is that the way it is :P
Dont take that the wrong way, but the piano just sounds kind of spratic, and 53 seconds in, ya just start hitting whatever keys ya want! lol...
I look forward to hearing this progress though :D
dont worry your right, like i said, rough
yes the ending is mad, i was struggling to make any progress so i just kept playing a bit to reach an end
the main problem is timing, i recorded the bass and melody separate to make certain it was smooth as possible but the timing is off for most of it.
i like the waltz theme(i always like waltz music though) and it does work well when the last two chords of bass in each bar meet the melody but bacause of the timing it doesnt happen all the time.
also the first two notes are completley out of time...not that it is a good start anyway, i really need an into for about four bars to begin.
what do you mean exactly by more musical?
more elements maybe ?
Well, I think it is a good start accordian boy.
I like the first 20 seconds the best. But the melody line in the last 2/3 doesn't feel like it is reusing the musical ideas introduced near the beginning. And near the end there seem to be some wrong notes in the melody line.
The bass line seems fine to me on first hearing.
Basically the piece would be better if it were a little tighter. And it needs more violins. :-)
Violins and theme music hmm?Quote:

Edit: I added a second track if you need inspiration for the RPD. Its a remix of the original RE2 RPD theme found in the "Desperate Times" scenario of Outbreak file #2. The outbreak games have amazing remixed RE2 music. You should also track down the Lab remix found in Outbreak #1. Its a good listen as well.
in my most evil post ever, full of bad omens and what not (666th post OOOHHHH)
well kaiser, funny you should mention the outbreak main theme, as that was my main inspiration. have another listen, it is quite different, but all the notes are there (transposed or not) i changed it to a waltz due to not wanting to copy it too much.
ive played that bass line so often ill never forget it .
pay no attention to the end, i was messing around. and getting frustrated by no progress!
maybe sunday for a clean version, im going backpacking in september so im working nearly everyday to make some money, 5am to 3pm, on monday, wednesday, friday, and saturday...horrendous!
in the mean time :
i would gladly take any requests for extra elements or voice changes.
more violins noted !
KICK ASS! I fanaly got DCEmu pro status! :D not as good as coder, but a little better :p
Well, I finally got some debugging done. I'm now loading the cameras successfully, and the displaying the backgrounds correctly. I don't yet use the camera, but that'll come soon. I've made a build to show off my modest progress. I'm sending it to the team, but I'm posting some screen shots too.
wow that looks great, good job.
cant wait for a public release.
Excellent, I think its time for another WIP progress news post. I'll get on it ;)
sounds good :D
nice work but in picture #2 the character seems to be over sized : D
Looks brilliant :D :D :D
Keep it up. those textures are out of this world
thanks rhebock, yeah its accualy not rendering the character on the plane of the camera yet, its just rendering on a plane from that aspect.. soon enough it will render the characters on the exact plane used in the game :D
and Zion, thanks for the sarcasim about the textures, but thats just the way it is untill the artist that created the main hall finishes his model. then I will begin on texturing the whole room..
Edit: Kick more ass! even better user status :D thanks!
Actually taking a look of the character, it is sized fine, picture her in picture 2 going to sit down on the PC seat and you can see she aint all that big, just the graphic I guess (And thats brilliant :D)Quote:

Looks really good.
I need to get back to music production, though. Although I think I'm going to look into getting sound effects like footsteps and gun sounds (I may just look for public domain versions) and have them ready to be used as well. They're little things that no ones discussed but really would round out a demo nicely.
right, I agree. we do sound effects. :D
Congrats jman420,
The project is looking great! I'm looking forward to play the demo. ;)
The modeling looks incredible... Can't wait for a demo or teaser. :)
Sumo X,
I really like the many free sounds from http://meanrabbit.com -- so maybe you can pick some of those.
I'll PM you the download link for the build I made screenshots from.
hello again,
erm sorry but more time is needed for the waltz, i went out saturday and drank way too much(i dont know how i got home at all) i just tried the test build, its great!
one question, are the renders going to need to be layered to produce images in front of the character, or is there a better way?
anyway great progress, glad sumo x is back doing sound, nice to see all the enthusiasm for the project as well.
yes what I hope to do is have 2 images to display as the game view, one, a background with all detail, and a rendered alpha image (so that only what I want is visible) to be displayer over top of the character.
how easy would it be to render for stereoscopic viewing, im guessing you just need to render the scene from a certain distance away and have each view take up half the screen, be good to try it
maybe
well stereoscopic uses 2 images from different aspects to trick your eyes into seeing 3D, so the issue would be finding the exact aspect that would make it look right.. it would be possible though.. Why? I'm not making a virtual boy homebrwe :p
it would give everyone who bought MGA2 something to do with the solid eye(me included)
thereisnt any real need, but maybe once the main game is done...
i think each camera must be the distance between the centres of each of your eyes, the average is 2.5 inches i think....
If you place the stereo images closer together the objects seem closer, farther apart to make the objects seem farther away. Easily enough done. But potientially lots of work but would be fun to try.
I haven't bought MGA2 yet, but I'd like to try it when I buy my next round of PSP games.
